A project I heard tell of a long time ago (I think someone asked about hosting) has been mentioned on Optical Bros. It's an Open Source project for the ZX. The site that's pointed to is down at the moment, but as they say on OB, it will hopefully start up again. As I understood it, the site would be something like SourceForge, but for our humble machine. A nice idea.
Actually, looking at some news on POS, perhaps it was just a repository for code. I still like the SF idea, tho'. Hmm.

For all you musicians out there (of coz, that doesn't include me) there's a new version of Pro Tracker flying around the 'net for you to download. I'm not sure what changes Alone Coder has made in this release (v3.65), but it's always worth keeping up-to-date. Vorc reports that pattern edit fields are wider. Oh, I'm sure that means something to someone.
I've spotted it in a number of places, notably Virtual TRD and Optical Bros. Grab it and make beautiful music.
I also notice from OB that there's a new release of (un)RAR too. Handy.

I've just seen news on WOS that Colin Woodcock has released issue 5 of his downloadable 'zine, ZX Format. It's not on the official homepage at the moment, so check out WOS for the download.

If you check out old-computers.com you'll see a couple interesting new/updated entries in their museum. First up is the Timex TX-2048, a well-known clone that gave an alledged 99% compatibility. Then there's the Czerweny Spectrum Plus, a relaunch of the previous CZ-2000 with, basically, a Spectrum+ styled case. Go check 'em out.

The Spectrum has made its second appearance at the Assembly demo party, courtesy of Hooy-Program. H-prg's demo and music entries in the oldskool compos achieved 4th and 9th place respectively. The Assembly site now has the detailed results for the first day of competition.

Apologies for the slightly late posting of this news. It's been a busy (and very hot) weekend. But I see that Yerzmyey is still on form, sending out a whole heap o' releases from the recent Syndeecate Apocalypse party, held in the lovely Czech Republic. The full pack of downloads can be grabbed from Demotopia, including the slightly delayed release of Wirne by Mike\ZeroTeam.

Not strictly scene-related, but it might interest you anyway if you still have some old demo tapes to transfer to PC :-) We have updated our MakeTZX and CSW tools to versions 2.33 and 2.00 respectively, with more features and bugfixes. Check out the main headline for all the pointers, or read more...

This new version fixes some bugs, adds lots of keyboard shortcuts, and is a bit more configurable.
As usual, take it from: http://www.speccy.org/metalbrain

I spotted a link from ellipse.raww.net to a site called ZX-OS. It's all about a possible upcoming replacement operating system for the ZX Spectrum which claims will be multi-tasking. The site is in Russian, so I can't be certain of the translation. But it's an interesting idea, and the site appears to be inviting discussion.
One concern tho' is how generic this will be? Something that will run on the majority of ZX machines would be nice, as opposed to working on just a couple clones. Hmm.

Doesn't the headline just say it all? Check out Blackeye.org for an interview with multi award-winning pixel-artist Gas13, a regular in most ZX compo's. And hey, the interview is in English, which is a bonus.
