iconToooools
A bunch of tools and utilities have been reported on over at V-TRD.
First tho', a quick mention of RC Disk Formatter 0.4 by Real Software. I don't know what it does. Guessing it's a disk formatter, right!?
Anyway, back to V-TRD, who have news and downloads of the following proggies:
  • UnRAR is upped to v0.33, allowing more unpacking of RARchives on a ZX.
  • Sleep Format v2.5light is, I guess, a formatting program. Which works at night. Or does it slowly. Or something.
  • The DMA Ultrasound music editor, Digital Studio is updated to v1.12.
  • Free Speed is a program which provides you with cheap drugs. Or it could do something with your CPU. Maybe.
  • Witchcraft Resident Boot Install Utility v1.2 is a program with far to long a name.
  • and there's a new version of a Z80 Assembler.
Well, it's quicker to list them than do full write-ups. Slack, aren't I!?

iconZX-Emul for Windows
ZX-Emul, a (shock!) ZX Emulator, hasn't been updated for a couple years, but I see that in the last few days, a new version for Windows has been released. I don't have many details of this emulator aside from the fact that the two recent releases have brought it up to v0.02b. For a download, get yourself over to WOS.
 [icabod] - 08/12/2002 22:12

iconScentre
Had a note from Diver that ZX Scentre, the ZX scene database site, has been updated. What's the main change? It's bilingual! Yes, another site that's easy to view. Thanks guys.

iconThe News
The problem with taking a while off from "doing the news" on a site like this is that once you get a chance to sit in front of a 'puter and write something... well, there's loads of it! And that makes you want to leave it another day. Eventually, it becomes too much. My news sack is bulging, and ready to spurt. Ehm. There's an innuendo, eh?!
The problem is, with all this news to get through, it'd done really badly. Like this:
  • A new version of Vortex Tracker II is available. It's up to v1.0 alpha 9.
  • New versions of Horror Word (1.03) and BestView (2.14) are available over at DJH Downloads if you want them.
  • Apparently, Mekka&Symposium won't be taking place next year. If you want it to happen, there's a petition.
  • If you fancy trying out your Czech, go grab some issues of ZX Magazin from Speccy.cz.
  • Spin v0.4 has been released. You can grab a list of changes if you check out the WOS forums. There's also something about a beta of Spin 0.41.
  • Shitloads of goings-on at WOS, but importantly it's been cake-and-icecream time. The other day, the site turned 7 years old. Well done.
  • In the last few days, vbSpec has been upgraded by a few versions, and it currently rests neatly on v1.62.
  • POS is closed today in memory of Ded Smirnoff.
  • Get over to V-TRD to grab yourself a copy of Prodigi DMA USC Music Editor, which supports a DMA sound expansion for the ZX.
  • TCG have made another update to MB Commander, bringing it up to v1.3.
  • If you want to transfer files to-and-from PC and ZX, then check out the news on the ZX DIY Page. There's info from Garry Lancaster with some programs for just that purpose.
  • Timewasters wanted to spread this file, and this message: "we who are who are we. we made it to say we love scene. we will be here always. (c) Timewasters". There you go, then.
  • I've been sent this votesheet for "kpuk#3__inskene", a 'zine from Skrju. Try to fill it in and send it on by December 8th.
  • Sintech report on CSS that there's no confirmation yet on whether the MB03 will ever exist. They have 20 of the required 50 orders for 8BC's proposed system. It's not easy to sell something that only may exist.
  • Also with Sintech, there's some news of a +D Clone for the sum of 99 euros. Again, it's "soon".
  • Another post on CSS from Yarek gives info on ZXVGS 0.30 for MB02, which is working lovely-like on RealSpec. It even works with an emulated HDD interface. Yum.
Normal service will resume soon, I promise. Things are going haywire at the moment. Once things have settled down I'll try to get back into the "news every day" thing.
Oh, and if I've missed some news, let me know about it again. I may have missed it in my email, lost amongst the spam.

iconMeetings and shows
Two gatherings have been announced recently.
First up is JHCon. It's being held in January 2003 in Czech Republic. The only details I have for now is what's posted on the X-Board, so check that out.
The other announcement was for Sintech's 8-Bit show. It's just in the planning stage at the moment it seems, and looks set for either a Spring or Autumn 2003 time. Check out the post on comp.sys.sinclair for more information.

iconSite news
Here's a few little notes about some websites, and things they have "on the go" as it were:
  • If you're looking for the homepage of Gas13 you've probably been looking in the wrong place. It's moved to here. Update your links. Oh, and I've updated the button. Yes.
  • Getting majorly retro, you can go check out the homepage of classic ZX game-makers Zenobi is you really like.
  • Peters Plus are providing you with another chance to influence the development of the Sprinter, by asking in their latest poll if you think a CMOS chip is useful for the machine.
  • Retro Review #4 will be out at the end of the month. Looking forward to it arriving, yes.
  • Not quite ZX-related, but the follow-up to the recent ZX vs Oric battle is covered in the latest Retro Mart. This time it's the Vic20 vs the MSX.
  • There's a new version of Ziewer out around the 'net. This is a tool used for viewing ZX images on a PC. Very handy. You can grab it from, various place such as... ooh... Scenergy.
  • There's a new version of MB Commander from TCG out too. v1.2 includes faster copying and a minor bug-fix.
Hmm. Kinda strayed from news just about websites, but there you go. That's life.
 [icabod] - 24/11/2002 19:18

iconAnother week...
More apologies from me to you for being slack with updates. As I've mentioned, I'm busy at work, and have to find time to get a new house. Ooh, the agony.
So a few nuggets of AY-news for you to start with:
  • Over on POS they've posted "Compact AY-Player", a zipfile with details on how to make a... compact AY-player. Hmm. Have I mentioned this before?
  • I don't know much about Buzz, but it seems it's a modular software synthesizer. Basically, and expandable synth. And someone has produced a ZX Synth for it. There's even a game available which uses it, if that's your kinda thing.
  • Our friend (fiend?) Yerzmyey has produced another music pack (titled "Yerzmyey's Tunes pt2"), which you can download from the H-Prg homepage.
  • Over on Virtual TRD you can grab the latest version of ZX-Amp, a kinda winamp thingie for ZX toons. Lovely.
That's it for AY news at the moment. Much of this was nicked... I mean borrowed from VORC.
 [icabod] - 24/11/2002 19:17

iconStuff of a ZX persuasion
As mentioned in the previous post, I have some catching up to do. Here goes:
  • Vortex Tracker II has had another alpha-release. v1.0a8 brings with it chip-type and channel allocation selection. Oh, and the usual minor bugfixes, too.
  • Check out Virtual TRD for details of some UnrealSpeccy bugs and fixes.
  • All you Sprinter people will be pleased to see a demo version of "Thunder in the Deep" posted on the Peters Plus page.
  • On the ZX Hardware DIY page, you can find info on the ZX Spectrum +4 (a possible enhanced ZX), and also some updated schematics for Serial+IDE.
  • Highlighting the problems of developing using emulators, a new version of MB Commander is released. v1.1b allows it to start on... a real ZX. Hehe.
  • Keeping with the MB02 for a moment, on the 8Bit Company downloads page you can grab yourself some info on the "MB-HDD". No prizes for guessing it's an IDE interface. But this fits inside the MB02 it seems. Grab the details and get building.
  • Apparently, scenosaurus.org is back up-n-running, but I just checked and couldn't get there. I think it's a problem "up my end", tho', as I couldn't get to Scenergy either.
  • Which is better, the ZX Spectrum or the Oric Atmos? I think that's a fairly easy question. But some people just don't understand how easy, so there's a poll over on Retro Computer Mart to find out. You'll need to log in to vote in the forums, but hey, it's free so why not!?
Okay, that'll do for now. I'm quite tired at the moment. It's been a long weekend, and tomorrow I want to work late, so I can have more time off to find a house. 'Nite.
 [icabod] - 17/11/2002 20:55

iconHello again
Everyone point at the person who's not updated his website for nearly a week... yes, it's me. Sorry. So much for the news site, eh!? What can I say, I've been a bit busy what with work and trying to find a new house and things like that. So yes it's going to be a bumpy ride up until christmas, but we'll get through it. We usually do.
I'm currently in the middle of doing some system updates and "tweaks" over on raww.net. At some point (I keep saying this), raww.org will be moving over (with a new look - and yes, it's done), and I'll also put some information on the server in case anyone wants hosting. My plan has been to take a week off from work and do all of these projects, but try persuading my boss that's a good idea... he just won't accept it.
Quite a lot has happened in the last few days in the ZX scene. I'll get some of the updates out of the way now, and perhaps some tomorrow (depending on when I get home from work). Sorry to people who've emailed me. I've simply not been here to check them. But it must be saving me a fortune on the phone bill <g>.
 [icabod] - 17/11/2002 20:34

iconThingies
Another one of those nights. I have a busy day tomorrow, looking for somewhere to live amongst other things. It's just started pissing it down outside too. Aah well, at least the roof isn't leaking.
  • Over on the Peters Plus page you can grab yourself a new bootable system disk image, which you may want if your Sprinter has BIOS 3.00.
  • Vortex Tracker II is up to alpha 7 now, adding import of .PTI, .GTR, .FTC files, and improving import of some other formats. There's a couple bugfixes too, and source is also available.
  • There's a note on c64.sk about the addition of Retro Radio to the HC Gamer page's online radio. I have no idea if it'll include ZX tunes, but it could be worth a listen anyway.
  • Get your soldering irons out, there's a schematic for connecting a Hayes modem to your ZX over at Shaos' page. Needs a ROM change of 1 byte, but if you've nothing better to do, why not?!
  • The Compo is the title of a new AY-music competition started by Nik-o and Alone Coder. Check out Scenergy, POS, and ooh, other places for the details. It's what I'm gonna do. Yes.
  • If you're yearning for more photos from the recent "International Vodka Party" held in Poland, check out a bunch of snaps taken by Sveta. Thank TDM for the hosting and descriptions.
  • Gather up your belongings and head over to the X-Board for some news on next year's Shucon party. It's set to run from 11/07 to 20/07, setting you back 600czk entrance fee.
Well, Shucon looks promising, especially if combined with Beerever as suggested. I'd like to visit Czech Republic again. It's a nice place (before the flooding and stuff).
Anyway, I must get some sleep.
 [icabod] - 11/11/2002 23:13

iconSE Basic 0.80a
Haha, just after typing up the other news I get an email from Andrew Owen mentioning that SE Basic v0.80a is released. Go check the site to see what's changed, and also to check out the sections which now have content <g>.
 [icabod] - 10/11/2002 23:00

iconZXATASP news
Thanks to Sami for sending along news of the ZXATASP IDE interface for the ZX.
The system is complete (for now?), with the versions of kit at v1.62 IDE and v1.50 MEM. Ok, this won't mean much unless you check the site. There's even some of these kits for sale, too!
And if you have an Interface 1 on your ZX, then don't worry, as a little hack-type fix will get it working with the ZXATASP's ResiDOS. Ok, so you can only use one at a time, but a simple command switches between them. It even works well with the latest SE Basic (tho' we'll see what happens when v0.8 is released after beta testing is finished).
Now we just need to wait for someone to automate all of this into a handy multi-system commander. Yes, one program that handles MB02, TRDOS, ZXATASP, +D, ... hell, even tape. Anyone have the time to spare?
 [icabod] - 10/11/2002 22:56

iconSounds
There's some mention on a couple websites (V-TRD and Ellipse) of some new Music tools. I'm gonna try to grab the information from the translations, so bear with me...
First up is mention of Riff-Tracker, a .MOD editor for General Sound. I don't have much more to tell you other than it's at v4.19.
Next is "Pocket AY". At least, that's what the translations are showing. From what I can see it looks like a Flash-based device that plays AY sound, perhaps through the XZ-80 AY-player. Or perhaps not.
If anyone has any more information on these two, send it along. Perhaps Black could help out, as he seems to be the creator of Pocket-AY.
 [icabod] - 10/11/2002 22:44

iconC64: Vice City
Not ZX related in the slightest, but it's retro-computers, so it's close enough.
I've not bothered with the addon for the overrated GTA, Vice City, but according to a post on the WOS forums, it loads up simulating a C64! Mmm.
Worth the mention I think.
For something a little more "Sinclair" related, there's an advert on TV at the moment for Rennie (indigestion tablets) where a bloke drives up to a party in a Sinclair C5. Now that's class!
 [icabod] - 10/11/2002 22:35

iconMB Commander Update
If you wend (!?) your way over to the TCG homepage you can find yourself the new version of MB Commander, a kinda file-manager for the MB02. Wanna know what's new? It now runs on a 48k Spectrum, added displaying of system info, and oh some keyboard and "printy" kinda stuff. Hell, you know what I mean.
 [icabod] - 10/11/2002 22:30

iconZXSE and SE Basic
A quick note for the moment about the ZXSE and Sinclair BASIC projects from Andrew Owen. Both sites have been updated, tho' due to some restructuring I'm not entirely sure what's changed. I know for a fact that the SE Basic site has had some new sections added, and that there were a few techie "features" (read that as bugs) in the ZXSE site, which are now fixed.
Check out the sites for all the information you require. Go on.
Oh, and a note to Andrew: I've tried replying to the email you sent with this news, but it's bounced back due to "administrative prohibition" at mxs.mail.ru. Very friendly, eh!?
 [icabod] - 06/11/2002 23:09

iconBmp2Scr Pro preview
Apologies to those of you expecting a download to appear here. Instead I bring some more updates on what's to be coming in the next version of Bmp2Scr, the graphics conversion tool. You can find full details on the homepage, but a couple interesting new features are more dithering FX, more file support, and oh, it's gonna be faster.
Check out the site also for the latest (final?) version of the GUI of the upcoming Pro version.
 [icabod] - 06/11/2002 22:42

iconSites and Tools and Buttons
I'm getting lazy tonight, so I'm shoving a bunch of news in here. Oh, the shame.
  • A couple sites have mentioned Scentre, a ZX site dedicated to... anything ZX-related. It's in Russian, so pull out your translators.
  • Another thing I spotted aroudn the 'net was Z80 Tools, a collection of... Z80 Tools. It consists of 6 tools for carrying out conversions and things. Handy.
  • There's a new version out of "The E-Z80 Way", a cross-assembler. Found it on WOS, so go there to grab it.
  • I'd not seen the "Spectrum Golden Years" until a recent post on CSS mentioned that a book chapter had disappeared from it. Seems the owner of the site was writing a ZX book, or something. A nice site to check out, either way.
  • Thanks to the Sprinter team for sending me a new button. It's a pity, as the old button (here) looked nice, but was a biiig file. New button is up. As I said, when I get a chance I'll rework the buttons so they're a little smaller, and put them back online.
 [icabod] - 05/11/2002 23:26

iconZXSE and Spectaculator Fix
Two items of news related only in that they're both bug-fixes.
There's a patch available for the Spectaculator emulator which fixes a problem on some systems which causes sound "drift". You can grab the patch here.
Another bugfix is out in the form of SE Basic 0.72. You can download it here - and check out comp.sys.sinclair for the details.
 [icabod] - 05/11/2002 23:08

iconNo More ZpiXel?
Okay, so ZpiXel is still continuing, but the most recent post on the site is asking for new owners of the site. I guess the ZpiXel crew are moving on to other projects, so the site is up for grabs.
I'd offer to take the site on myself, but I have barely enough time to run raww.org.
So if you're looking for a new web project, get in touch with them, and perhaps you can take over the running of a current one.
... and if you feel like changing hosts... let me know <g>.
 [icabod] - 05/11/2002 23:00

iconT80 CPU
A tiny update to the Z80 Support Page gives a link to a project called T80, hosted on opencores.org. I've not seen this site before, but it looks like a kinda hardware version of SourceForge.
Anyway, the T80 is a "configurable cpu core that supports Z80, 8080 and gameboy instruction sets". I had a quick look at the site and frankly it's just too hardware for a humble softie like me to understand. But have a look, it could just float your boat.
 [icabod] - 03/11/2002 22:33

iconLinks
To start off today's news, here's some links I've found or been sent:
  • Over on the official Sprint page I spotted a link to a Beos port of this Sprinter emulator.
  • In case you can't find it, here's a link directly to Yarek Adamski's ZX page.
  • If you like you can check out the homepage of RadXcell. It's all in Polish tho', so it may help if you can understand that. Nice javascript clock, tho'.
  • And another homepage, this time of the famous Womo Team, or SPC (Spectrum&Sam Profi Club) if you prefer.
  • Also I've added a button for Ellipse. I would have added it sooner, but the button I was sent was biiig. It's a shame, as it's nice. You can see the better button here, but 29k is too much to load for a button.
  • Just noticed that the Sprinter button is big... I'll take that down for the moment, and try to optimise them both when I get a chance.
Thanks to anyone who's submitted a URL - the little box on the side of the page doesn't give any indication of who's sent the links.
As i said, the larger buttons (I mean, > 10k) I'll optimise when I get a chance. Hehe, it seems silly that a button is a larger file that the main logo.
 [icabod] - 03/11/2002 22:29

iconLaser Squad
If there was no other reason to buy a PC magazine, then this months PC Gamer (UK) provides you with several. Not only is the latest version of "Laser Squad Nemesis" on the cover disc (it's a play-by-email update of... ehm... Laser Squad), but there's also a competition where you can win an original copy of Laser Squad! Sadly it's for the C64, but it's still in it's cellophane wrapper, making it virtually priceless. Or is that worthless? Hell, it's a good game whatever.
If that's not enough, there's news of the upcoming UFO: Aftermath, a kinda pseudo follow-up to the other X-Com games. Okay, so it's by a different company, but the screenshots look nice.
Oh, in case you're baffled as to why I'm mentioning this here -- well, the originals are by the Gollop brothers, who frankly deserve knighthoods for their services to turn-based and ZX gaming. Yes.
 [icabod] - 31/10/2002 23:32

iconSprint and Thunder
A couple announcements appeared on the Peters Plus site. One was about a new version of the Sprint emulator from Shaos (tho' I didn't spot any update on the site - hmm). The other announcement was that a demo release of the upcoming Sprinter game "Thunder in the Deep" (yes it's the result of last night's curry) will be out shortly. Sweet.
 [icabod] - 31/10/2002 23:22

iconSE Basic update
Andrew Owen has released a new, bug-fixed version of SE Basic. It's up to v0.71, with hopefully the ability to work with ZXATASP and ResiDOS. It's available for download from the WOS BASIC page, tho' there's not a link to the file yet, so grab it here.
 [icabod] - 31/10/2002 23:19

iconTZX Vault update
There's been a big update over at TZX Vault. A whole bunch of new files for ZX, C64, and Vic20.
See, I can understand why we have TZX's -- it allows for perfect copies of tape-loaders. But... is there anyone who doesn't just speed-load the things? Hmm.
 [icabod] - 31/10/2002 23:14

iconCatWeasel MK3
Something over on VORC caught my eye. The "Catweasel MK3 PCI/Flipper" is basically a disk controller for PC/Mac/Amiga. It's designed to allow you to read non-standard disks, and the article on Vorc lists a few of them, most interestingly "further 8-bit formats planned". Hmm, okay so they're planned, but I'm thinking MB02, TR-DOS, and so on.
Oh and there's a possibility of a SID chip slapped onto it. Where's the AY, eh!?
 [icabod] - 29/10/2002 23:26

iconVortex Tracker II Alpha 6
In case you didn't guess from the headline, there's a new version of Vortex Tracker II released. v1.0 alpha 6 brings with it the ability to import .ASC, .PSC, and .FLS modules. Importing of Sound Tracker modules has also been improved. Handy.
 [icabod] - 29/10/2002 23:08

iconZ80 Support Page
Quick thanks go to Gaby Chaudry for pointing me in the right direction regarding the "Z80 Support Page". It's now hosted on the rather sensible z80.info domain. Information on Z80's, you see. Lovely.
 [icabod] - 27/10/2002 21:39

iconEl Mundo Del Spectrum 2.0
It's not often that a website has a version associated with it, but if you click around you can find "EMS 2.0", or El Mundo Del Spectrum (which translates as "The World Of The Spectrum" - guess "WOS" had already gone, eh?).
I spotted news of this on speccy.org. It gets extra points because the Babelfish translation includes the word "Vestibules". Fantastic!
I've not really had a chance to look around, but it looks... nice enough. Tho' again, it's in Spanish. Pity. Means I get bombarded with adverts. Ho-hum.
 [icabod] - 27/10/2002 21:23

iconVideo Studio 0.3
As the headline says, a new (0.3) version of Video Studio is out. You can go grab it from DJH Downloads. Note that it's only on the Russian version of the site. Set translators to Stun!
 [icabod] - 27/10/2002 21:15

iconThe E-Z80 Way Out
Small note here to mention that WOS has listed a new version of "The E-Z80 Way", a windows-based Z80 Cross-Assembler. What's new? Dunno.
 [icabod] - 27/10/2002 21:13

iconSites and things
Okay, a few little notes for the moment, as I'm rather tired. Oh yes, moan moan moan. But hey, I need sleep too, you know.
  • There's a new website for the 'zine ZX Digest. Go check it for subscription details and stuff. And yes, I will be subscribing myself, soon.
  • I got a mail with a link to the new homepage of Skrju, but there's... nothing there except some stats. Keep an eye on it, it will hopefully appear soon.
  • Oh thanks to Gas13 for pointing out that the BGE release that I "announced" yesterday is actually "coming soon". Oops.
  • A post on comp.sys.sinclair mentions that Shaos have (has?) released a new version of SCR-Editor, the... SCR Editor.
  • There's an interface screenshot of the upcoming BMP2SCR - and yes, I know I forgot the link yesterday. Sorry.
  • Some chatter on the Peters Plus General Forum about a new beta CD-Player for the Sprinter. Ok, so it's chatter from just the developer (Shaos), but there you go.
  • Zlincon photos. Yes yes, Zlincon Photos.
  • If you're hungry for music then Sergey has just released a new version of Vortex Tracker II. It's at v1.0a5, and it now imports .PT2, .STC, .ZXS, .STP, and .SQT files.
There's lovely. Sorry for general crapness at the moment. Lot's of work to do, meaning I feel like shit most evenings. Boohoo. Pity me.
 [icabod] - 24/10/2002 23:27

iconZ80 on Glass
Thanks go to Hally from VORC (the chiptune site) for sending me information on a new development in the world of the Z80.
Using Sharp's "continuous grain silicon" material, a Z80 processor has been built on a thin sheet of glass.
Okay, so I'm not entirely sure what the uses would be... perhaps a ZX running in a pair of glasses? Hehe.
Anyway, check out the news on these two sites: [1] [2].
 [icabod] - 24/10/2002 00:09

iconZlincon Over
Well, Zlincon is over, and that's about all the information I have about it for now. We await news and photos, yes we do.
 [icabod] - 24/10/2002 00:03

iconTools Tools More Tools
The following updated or new tools deserve some mention:
  • BGE : Burial Graphics Editor v3.05 English version is out... but I'm not sure where from - aah, go look for it.
  • MB Commander : This neat tool from T.C.G. is released at v1.0, and should be handy for all owners of the MB02.
  • ZX Advance : Yerz pointed me to the homepage of this ZX emulator for the Gameboy Advance. The page doesn't work in my Netscape, but a bit of hacking gets where you want to be.
  • BMP2SCR (pro) : The non-pro version of this sweet graphics tool will soon be discontinued, but check out the site for info on the upcoming BMP2SCR Pro 2.00.
  • ResiDOS : This ZXATASP extension to ZX BASIC now has a homepage... here.
Any more?
 [icabod] - 24/10/2002 00:00

iconMore Vodka
For some more pics from the recent "International Vodka Party", check out this link. You can find there a load of photos of very hairy people. Yes.
 [icabod] - 23/10/2002 23:42

iconAntique Toy 2002
Got a note that there's a new (fixed) version of the Antique Toy 2002 rules. What's changed? To be honest I'm not too sure, but you can grab the new rules by clicking here.

iconZXSE Site Update
After the recent announcement that there's actually a real, live ZX Spectrum SE lying around on someone's desk, the homepage has been updated with an image of said machine. Hmm. Doesn't look impressive, but it's what's inside that makes it special. Yes.

iconTools Tools Tools
Uhm, a few new tools/utilities are out and about, ready to be downloaded.
ZX Paint is a Windows-based screen editor that supports .SCR files. Z80 Tools is a similar thing, but DOS-based and is described as a "general Spectrum screen development tool". Hmm. Both of these are available from WOS.
Following on and staying in a Graphics vein, there's a new release of SevenuP out. v0.7b adds a "fill" menu, auto-mask, and some kinda new cursor mode. Lovely.

iconAmstrad Test ROM
  There's a newly uploaded "Amstrad +2 Test ROM v1.0" on S4E. Yes.

iconInternational Vodka Party
I'm guessing that most of the visitors to the recent IVP are still recovering, so if you want to go and see just what they got up to, RadXcell/Illusion was kind enough to send me a link to his photo-report. It's a bunch of snapshots from his camcorder. Worth a look.

iconAntique Toy 2002 rules
More news on the recently announced Antique Toy 2002 contest. Thanks go to Megus/Brainwave for sending me the full English rules to this virtual competition. You can grab them by clicking this link.
I think I've mentioned the compos already, and you can look at the download pack (which also includes a couple games) for all the information you want. Deadline for entries in is 31st December 2002.

iconZX Digest 1
I mentioned a few days ago about a new 'zine called "ZX Digest" - I've now had some more information on it from the editor, Andrew Ryals. In order to purchase the 'zine, the first issue of which is now available, you need to subscribe for 5ukp (or 10 euros). For that money you get:
  • 3 colour issues of ZX Digest
  • Each issue should be about 20 pages long
  • Free CD-ROM of latest spectrum games/utils/etc from 2000 onwards
  • Free CD-ROM updates as new software becomes available e-mailed to subscriber
  • Free newsletter detailing future articles in ZX Digest e-mailed to subscriber
  • Free advertisments if you want to try and sell/purchase sinclair stuff
Not a bad deal I think. If you're interested then send an email to Andrew, and you can take it from there.

iconZlincon 2002
I always like to hear about ZX parties early, so I was happy to be reminded of Zlincon, which is happening in... about 4 days time. Erk!
I may have already mentioned this party being held in Zlin-Priluky, Czech, but either way you can check out some information posted by Factor6 on the X-Board.

iconHarder!
A link I spotted on the Optical Brothers homepage pointed me to "ZX Hardware Support", a site dedicated to... hardware. Spectrum/ZX hardware to be precise. As it mentions on OB, there's not much there just yet, but email your suggestions and schematics, and perhaps this could become a very handy hub of hardware thingies.

iconAntique Toy 2002
I see from a couple sites (Scenergy and Gas13's homepage) that a new competition is starting up called "Antique Toy 2002" - it's a virtual music and graphics contest, much like, ehm, Nuotrauka from way back.
Competitions are split into Mainstream, Progressive, and Cover music, and Traditional, Alternative, and Antique Toy Logo graphics. i like the idea of the Progressive music section. But I'm thinking that versions of King Crimson songs would come under Covers, eh!?
Anyway, I have very little information, so if you want some contact the admin's.

iconeZ80 Sprinter
While we're on the subject of alternatives to the Spectrum (check out the previous post), there's a thread on the Peters Plus forums about the possibility of adding an eZ80 chip to the Sprinter, increasing the speed and abilities, while remaining backwards compatible. A nice idea, and some nice thoughts, including some possible "sneak previews" of what's to come in future versions of the Sprinter mainboard.
There's also some ideas for names of the next Sprinter. Hmm, my favourites would be "icabod-a-sprinter", or perhaps "sprintabod". No? Well you think of something better!!

iconZXSE has been built
In what can be considered a "large update", Andrew Owen has put up a bunch of new information on the ZX Spectrum SE. If you've been reading raww.org for a while you should already know a little of the history behind this project. It started out as a new ZX clone (albeit with a bunch of new features), then it became software for sitting on other systems, and...
Well I'll let you go to the homepage yourself and check it out, as history isn't so important now that a ZXSE has been built. To quote Andrew in an email he sent to me: "The ZX Spectrum SE is built... No pics yet, but it just looks like a Timex TC2048 anyway." - So no great surprises for anyone.
So, a few of the details before you click-away - the ZXSE has been built to Andrew's specs by Jarek Adamksi (well suited to the job). It's by no means complete, with features such as IDE still to come.
Anyway, check the site as there's a bunch of interesting information for you to digest. Go on.

iconFreeart Update
Just gone through a few of the things in the recent Freeart update, so I'll share some of them with you.
There's a rather... interesting poll online, something to do with wives and horns. Hmm. I'm hoping there's some strange translation problem there.
Actually, that's about all I'm going to comment on. The translation came out quite badly. There's bits in there about Chess, champagne, 'zines, and women.
