 | ZxRoadFighter project |
|
| |
Got an email from Paulo Silva the other day about the project he's working on, converting MSX and ColecoVision games to run on the ZX. Well some progress has been made with the game "Road Fighter" originally on the MSX. He's sent me a package of the work completed so far, which you can grab here. The pack includes the MSX-version.
I think it's a nice little (or perhaps large) project, and if you'd like to help out then please contact Paulo.

 | Sinclair Hotline almost in English |
|
| |
If you're one of my more "seasoned" readers (I mean old), you may remember that as far back as almost a year ago I talked about a useful resource titled "Sinclair Hotline" which covered loads of Speccy hardware. Well I've recently heard from Ricsibu (aka Richard Tarjan) that it's finally ready for public consumption. The preview has been updated in the last couple days, and it really is a huge beast of a page. Worth a check, although currently it's taking ages to load for me. I guess this is due to the recent 'Net problems I've been having.
As some help for the team, anyone who feels like checking through the text and verifying the information please do so. This is especially important for information on the various clones. You can send corrections to Ricsibu -- his email addy is on the page.
My only problem with it so far is everything is in one biiiig page. Hopefully when it moves over to the Hotline site it'll be split and modularised. Or something.

 | AY-Emulator site update |
|
| |
AY-Emulator site has been updated with new files (but no news). It's the updates that WOS mentioned a few days ago. Files that have changed are:
- MicroSpeccy : it's simply another fix for the AY-file player.
- AY-Emulator : 2.4 beta 5.
- AY2SNA : Convert .AY-files to .SNA-files - includes source.
- AYSplit : Split .AY-files into their component parts - includes source.
- AYMakeR : Make. Uhm... AY-files - includes source.
- AYSplitR : Split .AY-files. For use with AYMakeR - includes source.

Couple things that are worth a mention:
- POS webteam have a new member -- Hacker Kay. Yep, you know the name I expect. z80Stealth ay-emulation. Mmm.
- Recently on a WOS-Phorum someone asked about the location of R80-emulator, now that chaosite is offline. Ozzy mentioned a site hosted at narod.ru, which I've added a link to.
- Oh, I just found a button for raww.org by the fantastic Demiurge Ash (who's site appears to be down?). Sorry that I missed it before, coz it's a real beauty.

If you're going to this weekend's Phat1 party you may be interested in a post made today on the official homepage. All you need to do is get into Riga and you can arrange for someone to pick you up. Should make it easy if you don't know your way around.

 | Hmph. Virii |
|
| |
My web access has been a little "off" the last couple days. My guess? This new virus that's doing the rounds. Oh, I don't think it'll infect my server as it's a MS-based jobby. But I was online the other night and had a huge number of "pings" in the space of a few minutes, all going through HTTP. I think my dialup provider has been suffering a slight DOS because of it.
Damned annoying if you ask me. Hmph. Can I blame the lack of the exception movie on this?
Mind you it's not so bad, as there's been only a little in the way of news recently I think. I expect everyone is working on finishing their work for Phat1 (deadline is 22/09). That reminds me, I should get to work on my entry. If I have time between bouts of uber-cleaning. See, I'm buying myself a new PC, so I need a tidy area to stand it. It would be simpler if I wasn't keeping the current one too <g>. Aah but it'll kick some ass, and should cope healthily with a dozen-or-so rounds of RealSpec running concurrently.
Nice to see that this new technology isn't wasted, eh?
Oh and, okay I admit that some of my time has been spent playing Kyodai-Mahjongg. Not all of my time, but it makes a change from looking at pr0n, right? Ehm... too much detail! Still it's a nice way to relax after a day at work. Playing mahjongg I mean <g>.

 | Where is "exception"? |
|

Wondering where that movie is that I said I'd upload? Well I've basically had too little time to get around to it. It'll happen in the next couple days, I think. So be patient. It'll be there.

 | +3 Blue |
|
| |
Cristian Secara has produced a modified +3 ROM, I guess titled "Blue". It's based on the standard +3B ROM, with a few tweaks in it, including
- CAT command fixed for 3.5" disk users.
- Disk duplication for 728Kb disks is corrected.
- Formatted disk interleave has changed.
- "COPY" gives a full-screen printout.
- It's all Blue, so it is.
There are two sets of the ROMs for you to use, depending on if you still have the crummy old Amstrad 3" drive. You can grab them all over at Speccy4Ever.

 | English Translations |
|
| |
Quick-ish note about translations. As you know I find it difficult to check sites that aren't written in English (especially as the better translation engines refuse to work). Of coz I understand that some people find it difficult to read/write sites that are.
Well I see that POS have improved their site-translation with the help of iliks/Hugi. And more than just that, translation has been going ahead on various tech-docs. For starters you can grab the docs for the General Sound over at POS. So we can begin to understand and write for it. Noice.
If you have any feedback or suggestions about the translation, contact iliks/Hugi directly or through their site.
On a similar note, I wonder what's happened to the translation that used to happen on Scenergy? Hmmm.
Time to write more emails to the Altavista-team.

 | Snippets |
|
| |
Well, I really just don't feel like doing huuuge posts right now, so I'll mention a few things here:
- UnrealSpeccy : the next version of this new emulator has been released bringing it to v0.03. No details on what's new, you can grab it at DJH Downloads.
- Star Wars : well Serzh has entered the world of 512b gaming with his entry into the Minigame competition. Not tried it yet, but the screenshot looks noice.
- ZX-Chart : issue 2 is on the homepage in .TRD-format, along with a fixer for all issues in case your machine doesn't have a kempston mouse.
- Beerever : news is that the scene anti-party (no 'puters, just plenty o'booze) will be held this coming weekend. I found out too late to arrange anything. Hmph. I'll have to stay home and get drunk instead.
I have a couple other emails to filter through, and I'll get onto that tomorrow. I had a mail from Paulo Silva (he of the "MSX Conversion Project"). I'll check that out and post what he's sent me. Also I'll have had a chance to read through the first newsletter for Phat1. At a glance it's covering travel, compos, dj's. Oh and my keen eye spots new of a "special pr0n-demo-compo - C64 VS SPECTRUM!" Heh. Should be fun <g>

 | Alt Wiki Wiki |
|
| |
Was checking through a few of my email backlog and found something from Gasman which could interest you. It's a site titled "Alt Wiki", hosted on the Alternative Party website. It's in the early stages for now, but it's a system that allows anyone to make changes to the data held in it. Well to save me some time, I'll cut-n-paste from the email Gasman received:
"
We have set up a community site for people involved in alternative art, music and demoscene (ie. not PC!). We're trying to collect a lot of information together about the scene and get a large community input. Our wiki system allows *anyone* to submit changes and add new pages etc. In that way we want to see people with the knowledge to let others know about it. It's quite early days for the service, so don't be depressed by the content -- better to fix it yourself ;-)
" The mail goes on to request that data be added to the system on the scene history, important demos, groups, links... I've already added a few sites.
So go on and check it out. Add some information.
Hey also, I've added to the little calendar the details of the party, being held in Finland early next year. The organisers are on the lookout for an invitation intro for the Speccy, so if you fancy writing one then contact them. Noice.

 | CC01 Post-Party |
|
| |
Nope, this isn't the party equivalent of play-by-mail. It's simply some post-party information about CC01. First up is the news that "Lifeforms" by Placebo looks to have been released officially. You can get your good selves over to Scenergy or POS to grab it.
Also at Scenergy is some information about "Absolute Lame", the taker of 5th-place in the demo compo. I can't get anything from the site right now, but I'm sure you can all work something out.
Oh and hey, while you're at Scenergy you can read something about Perspective Group but again I have no idea what. Hmph.

 | Matt "Manic" Smith is alive |
|
| |
As you know I don't usually like to comment much on games, but I spotted a link to this article at Edge-Online, posted to CSS (sorry to whoever posted it... I lost it, but you'd get credit otherwise).
It's a little about the current whereabouts of the creator of "classic" game Manic Miner. Seems that in a future issue of the 'zine there'll be a complete "making-of" feature, along with transcripts of an interview. Should make interesting reading.

 | "Exception" and other things |
|
| |
Well I've had a few responses to my post about the "Exception" video from Doxy99, so I'll be posting it at the weekend (I really don't have the time to post it right now). I'll see about converting it to a scrunched-up DivX;-) movie, which should slash the download by a few Mb.
Just thought I'd let you know.
As I don't really know where else to put this, just a quick clarification. I mentioned a few days ago about a site by Optical Brothers. Well they're a group from Belarus, and they're the authors of Quick Commander and Clickmania, amongst other things. I mentioned about the fact that the site is only in Russian... not normally a problem, but as usual Babel is playing silly buggers. Hmm. Perhaps I should simply buy a translator? Or provide one here?
Hey, I'll put all of todays news in here, and it's all relatively "minor" (but in a nice way).
If you're one of the people who use a Disciple/+D, you may want to check out details of the incompatibilites of newer FDD's. And you can over at the Tech Repository.
Found another link to a Speccy group, Uninstall Team. Link is added to the demogroup section.
There's some info on Scenergy today about "Lifeforms" by Placebo, the 2nd placer at CC01. Again my translation engines fail me, so I'll end this post here.

 | Phat1 Competition Details |
|
| |
Well I was just about to get some shut-eye when I found this email from Relict\Phantasy+K3L. It's some details about the competitions in the coming Phat1 party. So far there are only a few entries in the Spectrum section: 1 AY-tune; 2 entries in Logo compo; and 7 entries for graphics.
Well I'm planning to enter one of the compo's (I'm not gonna give the game away and say which one -- assuming I get my entry completed). If you're entering any work, then be sure to include an info-file containing your handle/group, the filename and full name of your work, and of coz your email address.
Entries can be sent directly to Relict.

 | Sinclair Patents |
|
| |
Was looking through some of the recent posts in CSS and was reminded of a neat site titled "The Incomplete Spectrum ROM Assembly", which houses... ehm, I think you can guess. But the reason I was reminded was from a post by site-owner Geoff Wearmouth. He has a section of his site (check the "Loose Ends" page) dedicated to patents held by Sinclair and Amstrad relating to the humble Speccy. There's even one there for the Spectrum Screen. Sweet.
Anyway, thought some of you may be interested in this, and there's a heap of other useful and interesting things on the site. Worth a check.

 | "Exception" and "Genetic Error" |
|
| |
A recent post on the X-board from Unbeliever\XTM asked on the whereabouts of "Exception", a demo previewed at Doxycon'99. Well I have a video (19Mb mpeg) of this demo, which I'll happily post if people want it, but there's no news of a release-date.
"Genetic Error", a demo by K3L was also mentioned, with the fear that it will never be released. But good news! A follow-up post from Relict shows that life exists for this demo: "K3L is working on GE right now. We have some problems but now it's our priority! So wait!"
So. Wait!

 | Some POS Downloads |
|
| |
Okay, a few new files have appeared on POS which you may fancy grabbing. As well as the latest version of Real Commander there's also v1.3 of ZX-Navigator, described as an "Operating system for TR-DOS". Ehm, thought that TR-DOS was an operating system? Perhaps they mean boot-manager or something, not that I'd know as I rarely use .TRD's.
There's a few new 'zines posted there, with two issues of Fantastic, and also #19 of Plutonium.
And finally for now, v4.5 of the z80 assembler Alasm has been posted. POS says this is the "last version", but I think this is purely a dodgy translation, and is simply the latest version.

 | BMP2SCR v1.75 released |
|
| |
I've just received an email from LCD to say that he's released a new version of BMP2SCR. This is the v1.75 that I mentioned, uhm, a couple days ago I think. Yes.
It's a quick release since the last version (just like with RealSpec), and as LCD says, he's been "coding like a devil" to get it out. So what's changed? Here's the list:
- LCE Viewer now shows colour screen correctly
- GFX-Mode tester - should fix crashes on some PC's
- Lace LCE Gigascreen Color Multicell mode. The download includes a couple demo's of this in action
- Added ability to "select/crop" large .BMPs before conversion
- Saving Lace image as .BMP is now possible
Okay there's a couple other things, but why should I tell you all about them? It's best if you go and grab the util yourself.

 | Real Soft, Real Commander |
|
| |
If you're one of the many people who use TR-DOS (even just on emulators), then you could do worse than picking up the latest version of Real Software's TR-DOS File Manager, Real Commander 2.0. I've seen it used before on TR-DOS images, and it's a nice piece of work. Only supports Russian-language, but there's a possibility of English version too in the future.
Thanks to Pawel of RealSoft for the news.

 | AY-Emulator and MicroSpeccy releases |
|
| |
According to WOS, Sergey Bulba has released another version of his fantastic Ay-Emulator. There's been no updates as I write this on the official webpage, so I can't give details of what's new in v2.4b5.
Also released is another fix for MicroSpeccy, the .AY-player. And there was me thinking it was finished?

 | Aiii. For Real(Spectrum) |
|
| |
In case you hadn't already spotted, yet another version of RealSpectrum has been released, this time it's up to beta 11.b. This is pretty much a maintenance release, with a few bugfixes and some improved stability. They seem to have focused mainly on getting the program working nicely in WinNT/Win2k, which is great as I'll be using that more when I finally upgrade my PC. If you use these OS', then you should grab VDMSound to get sound out of RS. There's also been some tweaks to improve working with Cyrix processors apparently, tho' I'm surprised anyone still uses them :].
Also altered in this release is the anti-cheating part of the AIR recording mechanism, used for competitions.

 | BMP2SCR v1.75 preview |
|
| |
Well after yesterday's report on the new version of BMP2SCR, the homepage has been updated with, oh yes, some news of the next version. Seems that we waited so long for an update, that two are coming along in quick succession. So what's this "preview" all about? Well there's a new picture posted to the site of a new mode that'll be included. It's called (deep breath) "Lace LCE (Gigascreen) Color Multicell mode", and it looks rather spiffing (at least on the sample screen).
Mmmm.

 | UnrealSpeccy 0.01b released |
|

UnrealSpeccy. Do you see what they've done with the name there? Do you?
Well as you could have guessed, a new emulator titled UnrealSpeccy has been released on v0.01b. I have no information on it so far apart from the fact it does what most emu's do. Emulate.
You can find some more information on either Scenergy (where I spotted it first), or from DJH Downloads.

 | Bits and Pieces |
|
| |
Some room for a couple little things here:
- ASCEdit : A new project for the Sprinter has begun, the idea sprung from a few months ago. This new text editor will have a demo version out in a few more months.
- Meeting in Bunnik : On the WOS/Phorum's there's a post from Dr. Beep announcing a meeting in Bunnik (the Netherlands). Few details apart from it's a one-day affair on 15th September, from 10:00 'til 16:00.
- Birthday Presents : POS have posted a new production by 4th Dimension. It's a gift for recent birthdays, and you can grab it in both TRD and .TAP version. Mmm.
- ASC-II results : Another thing posted to POS are results of ASC-II party. I've queued them up, I'll list them when I have more time. Oh hey while we're at it, they also have a demo version of the new Slide Player. Worth a look, why not.
- Optical Brothers : Well I'm no good with non-English sites, and again Babelfish is playing up, so a quick mention for a link spotted on POS (aren't they busy). Guessing from the fact that "ZX" appears amongst the text that I can put this in the demogroup section. Oh, Quick Commander's on there too.
- ZX-Charts/en : ZX-Chart has started putting everything in two languages: Russian and English. Nice work there. Spotted this on Scenergy.
- Minigame compo : Was reminded of the Minigame website that Gasman has set up while I was looking at Scenergy. Check it and enter, if you can create a tiny game.
Ta-Raaa!

 | Turtles Dream : TNG |
|
| |
Well after the recent spate of demoparties, it seems wise that there's also a new version of Turtles Dream, the complete releases-list from the history of demoparties. Okay, so I think all parties are covered. It's a useful resource, and it's also surprising just how many releases there have been. I've not checked completely yet so I don't know if all the non-entries from various parties have been included, but that'd take ages to verify.
Additions in this, v1.7, are:
- Paradox 2k+1 releases
- Phat0 releases
- CC01 releases
- ASCII compo added
- Sample Music compo added
- small fixes
So grab the file, which comes courtesy of ra_id\Mayhem\K3L.

 | Announcing XzentriX 2001 |
|
| |
A little short-notice for this party, as it starts... ehm... on Friday.
XzentriX 2001 is a party for basically any 8-bit platforms (tho' it quotes some 16-bit machines, I'm sure). It's taking place in Seeshaupt, Germany, and space is limited so unless you knew about the party beforehand, you may not get in. You can always fire off an email to the organisers if you're interested in going.
It's not demoparty style tho' and seems more like a gathering than anything else. Could be worth a look if you're in the area.

 | Playing Catch-Up |
|

Well a little behind, but the top Speccy Demo Archive (Demotopia as if you didn't know) has added news on the recent (and not-so-recent) parties. Full results for CC01 and Phat0 have been posted, along with a bunch of new releases, bringing the archive to a nicely staggering 1400+ demos.
For another place to grab the CC01 files and results, you can get yourself over to DJH Downloads, where they've all been posted, including the non-Speccy results.

 | RealSpectrum beta 11.A released |
|
| |
Oh, in case you'd not spotted it over the weekend, there's a new release of RealSpectrum from the lovely hands of Ramsoft. It's generally a maintenance release, concentrating on "AIR security for the game competitions". AIR of course is the system for recording game input, and it's (RS) being used for Speccy Tour 2001, a game competition started a couple days ago.
However there's much more to the new version than just that, with enhancements to the debugger such as in-line assembler and I/O breakpoints (useful for hacking that AY-routine?). A nice additional feature is the ability to play tapefiles through the soundcard.
Finally if you use Windows 2000 (and NT?) then you should check out the homepage of the emulater. Seems there's an "issue" with the emulator running stupidly slow regardless of CPU speed.

 | BMP2SCR updated and Exclusive SpecView SE |
|
| |
Two fine graphics-apps have had updates in the last few days. Firstly there's a new version of LCD's BMP2SCR, the image conversion tool. Not entirely sure what's new in v1.74, especially as the info-page shows it as a version behind. If in doubt you should grab the new version from WOS.
Also while I was away I received a nice gift from Heaven Aeroplane. It's the latest release of his sweet-as-pie .SCR-viewing app, SpecView SE. This new version, v2.2.1, brings with it a few fixes, but more importantly it's now gone Open Source. So download this package and you get the latest version along with source distributed under the GNU GPL v.2+. As HA says, "I have very little free time now, so... I hope that the public will help me to develop the viewer" so what are you waiting for, download and check it out. Of course modifications are welcome here.

 | Back 2 |
|
| |
Well the best intentions often go awry, and sure enough I turned on my PC earlier about to write some updates to the site and... I ended up playing more of Red Faction (demo). Poor I know, but what other game can you run around blowing the crap outta walls, eh?
So, I'm here now, first up with a couple "clarifications" and notes. Nothing too serious, just some things I've been asked to mention.
The button I put up for c64.sk I cleverly put in the wrong size. That's cut-n-paste for ya. Don't think it was too noticeable (not in Netscape, anyhoo). I was also asked by CreamD to make sure people know he's not the only organiser of Forever -- he just covers the C64 bits. Of coz the party is organised by Pol, Elviss, and CVM, with CreamD doing C64 and XI covering Atari. Got that?
I also found out (I'll shove it in here for now) that the main Forever-site is delayed due to a HDD crash (I used to use that excuse too). If you want any info on the next event, you could do worse than check the Forever/C64 site.
As a follow-up to the recent "Send In The Clones" article (I really love that headline <g>), I've heard from both Pingo and MacB (I said he'd come up trumps). The machine is a Delta-S 48k, tape-only system. Hmph, tapes suck.

Very quick note to say I'm back from a tiring weekend, and news will resume tomorrow, and it looks like there's a lot of it. Among other things, clarifications and corrections to a couple posts. But as I say, it'll happen tomorrow.

 | Weekends and ECTS and links and things |
|
| |
Quick post tonight, for two reasons. Firstly I'm off to London for the weekend (more on that in a minute), and secondly because I'm more than a little drunk. Hoorah! Of coz people who know me will fear the safety of my surroundings, but I don't feel that bad.
Anyway, a couple notes before I leave you for a couple days. Checked the Phat1 website and it seems that the first phatletter will be released in the next couple days, with more info on the party-to-come. It also seems that the "party will be held on the ship!" Okay, I'm as lost as you are!
Had a note from MacB, who rightly says that the "unknown clone" I mentioned a couple days ago isn't a Hobbit. Heh, never really thought it was, I just like the name. All we know is that it was built with a DIY Keyboard Kit. Any more information would be great (check the news archive).
While I'm away it will be the birthday of Gas13 (the person, not the site). So many happy returns to you for the 3rd September. And thanks to Nik-O for the tip-off.
As you know this is a Speccy site, but we must acknowledge other scenes, as they acknowledge us. So I include a button for the site c64.sk. The link was sent to me by site-owner and Forever-organiser, CreamD. Nice site, well designed, and some useful news in there.
Now, it's not so much of a quick post, but grouping these things together is useful.
So, this weekend I'll be at ECTS, a trade-show for us techy-types. There'll be loads of new technology, new games, but frankly I just wanna go and letch at the booth-babes. If I can dig it out of the clothes-pile in time I may even try to "promote the cause" by wearing my raww.org t-shirt. So if you're there and see someone wearing that Tee, it'll prolly be me. Don't be a stranger, come up and say hello. And for f*cks sake buy me a drink!!!

 | More More More CC01 (and some Phat) |
|
| |
Yep, some more downloads and information on the recent CC01 party. Phoenix informs me that he's posted the 32k game .TAP-pack on Sunbeam FTP. You can also download these (in .TAP? guessing it's more likely .TRD) from DJH Downloads, where you'll find nestled amongst them some more releases from Phat0. And what's this, there's a demo from Paradox 2k+1, too.
Scenergy has a bunch of news about CC01 too, but typically Babelfish is failing to load the page. So I'll work out what I can. For a start, the downloads section is worth a check. More interestingly there's mention of some photos from the party. I've not checked them all yet, but here's a few sites that are mentioned: Wlodek Black's page, Phantom Lord's Photos (complete with "Paradox'99 Vote List"), CC001-Vinnny (yup, I'm not sure on that one either). Scenergy also have a gallery themselves, of the entries to the Graphics Compo.

 | Tracker Archive updated |
|
| |
I trust you've all seen and downloaded the tr_songs tracker-music archive from the AY-Emulator homepage? Well get over there and do it again as it's been updated. The archive is a massive 6Mb and contains over 6700 files of pure ay-sweetness. The updates? Hell I have no idea what they are, but if you've not already got this you're missing out.

 | Announcing ASC-II part 2 |
|
| |
Hmm. Keep thinking that should be called ASC-III. Well whatever.
The party has been announced on POS, and is planned for April 2002. The only info I've seen is on that site, so I suggest you check it out, although there's not a huge amount there right now.
I'll give you more info as I find it, right?

 | Send In The Clones |
|
| |
This is slightly interesting, I think. Phoenix just mentioned it on #z80. It's part of Pingo's Computer Collection, and it's a Russian Spectrum clone. Not entirely sure of the details (I don't think he's managed to turn it on yet), my guess is it's a Hobbit, but hey, I know nothing. If anyone has information, then please pass it on (/me waits for MacB to call).

 | More Party Downloads |
|
| |
Scenet have posted news that they're providing another place to get the CC01 releases for the Speccy. There's also a plug for the "Uphold the Law" bbs, which has all these downloads and more. Not checked it yet, simply coz I'm too slack to bother. And because I don't know where it is, natch!

 | Retro Thingies |
|
| |
Couple notes about some things I spotted mentioned on CSS.
If you have a WAP-Phone (as I have) you can now play Elite while on-the-move. Yeah, WapElite is a persistent online universe that you connect to through your phone (tho' I'd recommend an emulator or your bill with be huge). It's a nice idea and I'll prolly give it a go soon. Spotted in a post from Daren.
Next up, I've been buying a few t-shirts from the states recently (it's called geek-chic from places like ThinkGeek and Copyleft). Well someone asked about retro-clothing and Derek Jolly posted a link to GeekStyle, a UK-based site. Couple nice shirts in there including Ant Attack and Elite. Heh, this one even has the permission of David Braben and Ian Bell. Nice.
And hell why not, a note to say that chiptune.com have linked to raww.org. Thanks people.

 | Phat1 page is up |
|
| |
Okay, it's already been mentioned but I thought I'd give it an offical posting.
There's an official Phat1-site up-n-running, and rather sweet it is too.
The party will be the usual affair, although a little less "structured", which I think is a good thing. It seems to be kinda "turn up and we'll see what happens". It's taking place in only a few weeks time, starting on September 21st (a friday), at no particular time (I guess the drinking starts when the first guests arrive). The place is Riga, Latvia.
Compos that are planned for us are the standard batch of #include <compos.h>, but with a couple tweaks. Specifically there's a demo compo, 1k and 8k intros, ay-music, graphics (standard and interlaced), and a logo competition. For the logos, simply design a "PHAT" logo with the same rules as the gfx-compo.
As with last year there's DJs and stuff going on, so it should make a great weekend.

 | Phat 0 Results |
|
| |
Okay, as it's results, it's worthy of a post all of it's own. Hey, CC01 has had two! Well now it's the turn of the incredibly long-awaited Phat0 results, from the party which was held a year ago. So now that most participants have probably left the scene, let's look at the tops:
music compo
1 - What I Know - Xagon/PHT
2 - Lobothomy - Factor6/K3L/PHT/5SC
3 - No Pay No More Millennium - Black Groove/LFG
graphics compo
1 - Spider - Viator/AVALON/RUSH
2 - The Real Face - Gas 13
3 - Old Ganja Smoker - Relict/PHT/K3L
1024byte intro
1 - Life - Serzh
2 - Phlat - Mike + Jtn/4D
3 - 1kbyter - Silverfox/AOD/STY/ROLE/CIV (c64)
demo compo
1 - Fitspeak - Dekadence (c64)
2 - Yerzmyey's Nightmare - Hooy-Program
3 - Flurge - Raww Arse
Well that's the short version of the results, you can also check through the full version.
It's worth noting that the results include some (not many) C64 entries, including the winning demo. But I don't think it's a big problem. If you're not happy with it, just filter out the results. Nice to see X-Agon winning in the music compo, and also to see Gas13 doing well. But I think it's no surprise that Serzh has snuck into 1st again in the intro compo. It'd have been different if I was taking part of coz <g>.
Anyway, that's the results.

 | Party Downloads |
|
| |
Okay, already mentioned a few places where you can grab some releases from Phat0 (yep, it was about a year ago) and also from CC01 - well in addition to all this, POS have posted (a few days ago), the Paradox software disc, along with a few other items you may like to grab. And POS isn't the only place, either.
So here's a quick rundown of party-related downloads in no particular order (hope I'm not missing any):
- SunBeam : Phat0 - You should already know this one.
- POS : Paradox 2k+1 - Just mentioned it, in fact
- POS : CC01 - Patched official party release, and compo-games
- DJH : CC01 - Demos and Games released at the party, along with some comments about it all
- Scenergy : CC01 - Etc, etc, etc...
- Scenergy : Phat0 - You get the idea by now I'm sure
Okay there's more to it but again you see a tired icabod. It doesn't take much effort to find all the downloads you need.
When I actually get my arse in gear I'll be putting up some more stuff for you to download from raww.org, but that may take a little while.

 | S4E ROMs posted |
|
| |
Quick note in this post to say that the UniDOS ROMs for both Disciple and +D have been posted to Speccy4Ever. You could do worse than grabbing them, if you have one of these disk systems.

 | POS: Living on Video |
|
| |
POS have put up, among other things, a new Video section to their site. From it you can download some movies about the Spectrum, including some stuff with Cuddly Sir Clive, Scary Matt Smith, and something from the recent ASC-II party.

 | Chaosite goes Pr0n |
|
| |
Humm, unexpected result when I visited Chaosite just now. It's turned itself into a pr0n-portal. Well, a link to one, anyway. So the domain has expired, and you can now go buy it, if you can raise enough cash. According to the "buy this domain" link, "Any Offer Below $550.00 USD Will Be Ignored!" Okay, that's a great price. Not.
So, I'm removing the links from here (from the main part of the page).
Chaosite - RIP.

 | Phat-Pack of Phun |
|
| |
Okay, I've been away for the weekend. I didn't mention it here as I wasn't expecting anything exciting to happen over these coupld days. Oh how wrong I was. I'll skip the tiny details for now, as I'm simply too tired. But I think I can quickly give out the basics.
Thanks go to Phoenix\RA for being the first to send this news to me. Oh there were others, but this was the first email I saw (having not yet had a chance to sift through the 500+ emails I've got waiting for me).
The warez (hey, I feel like I'm running a l337 warez site now <g>) from Phat0 have finally been released, and you can grab them at SunbeamFTP. I think it's all there in .TAP-form except for the music, and Phoenix has even created a gfx-viewer for ya. There are no doubt many other places to download the releases, such as POS, DJH Downloads, and maybe Scenergy. I'll try to confirm these tomorrow night, after I've had some rest (yay!) and been to work (boo!).
Another place you could check is the newly-set-up Phat1 site. Yep, you can get yourself over there and find out infos. I'll be doing that tomorrow too, as for now I'm tired. Spending the weekend with the other guys in RA can be exhausting -- but in a good way <g>
'Nite, 'bod.

 | Official releases and info from CC01 |
|
| |
Right, a big thanks to Unbeliever\x7m for sending me some official news on last weekend's CC01 party. The stuff you've seen has been, as you should know, unofficial. So here's a chance to get some good info, right? Right. As Unbeliever says, this info comes "from the hands of the party organizers".
First up some more complete results:
512 byte intro
1 - BoomBoom - Red Alex/CTL
2 - Insult - Asman/Proxium
3 - Nop - Mad Cat
graphics compo
1 - Prisoner Of Time - Pheel/PHT
2 - X-zema - Paracels/Placebo
3 - Among Us - GAS-13
4 - ;-( - ZSV/Constellation i.a.
demo compo
1 - Stellar Contour - Brainwawe
2 - Lifeforms - Placebo
3 - Love Gun - VolgaSoft
4 - Jaundice - Skreamer
5 - Absolute Lame - Eye-Q
Also for those who're interested (and I know there's a lot of you out there), you can grab these results and a list of all entries to the ZX-compos in this file. That's right, you can see a list of all the entries that didn't make it into the final competitions.
I've also been handed the current official party-pack of releases, which you can grab here. It's a .RARchive, so you'll need to grab WinRAR or something. The pack is nearly complete, just missing one music entry and a couple demos, it seems. And in case you're wondering, I've already patched this download for ya, and re-comped it. So you get the latest stuff (for the moment).
I think that's it for this post now. Check back later in case I have updates.
