 | Subliminal Extacy released... shortly |
|
| |
Being a professional (haha) Software developer, I know how difficult it is to get products out of the door on time. I'm sure one day I'll actually manage it. So it probably comes as no surprise after reading the headline that the upcoming SE#3 has been delayed. But there's some good news. It's just been moved back a week. The current release date is now April 26th. This is mainly due to (and here's a quote): "ppl don't seem to understand what DEADLINE means". Hehe. I must confess, I'm one of those people. But hey, I've been busy.
Anyway, I've been chatting with LaesQ, and it sounds like we can expect some good stuff from SE#3. I saw an early version of the new engine, and it was looking sweet as pie. It's since been re-written, and has had a few tweaks. And of coz, the articles will rock!

 | Furry Freak Brothers? Mad Hippies! |
|
| |
Hehe. That'll excite any CSS regulars who happen across this page. "We must perform a Quirkafleeg!"
Anyhoo, that's not what this post is about. While browsing around, I saw mention of a site called MadHippy. I'm sure I've heard of this site before, but I've never really checked it out (it's probably hidden in my list of about 1000 to-do's). So, on a whim I went over there, and found a large selection of techy stuff. There's a heap of information there, ranging from ZX81 manuals up to TR-DOS programming guides. Worth a check, you never know what you may find.
Suspiciously, raww.org isn't included in the links section. Well, better get that sorted out then, eh?!

 | Dear John-ish |
|
| |
Hmm. Interesting post over on the X-board from everybody's favourite pocket-Messiah, Yerzmyey. Seems He's leaving the scene. Almost. Kinda. -Ish.
I'll leave you to chunder on over there and read the post, but to cover the basics, this only means His online presence will be lower. You'll still be able to marvel at His work, and meet Him in person at parties and stuff.
Considering how many people know this guy, I thought it was worth mentioning.
On another quick note, due to popular demand, a direct link to X-Agon's famous X-board has been added to the bar on the right.

 | A funny thing happened on the way to the Phorums |
|
| |
A new thread has just been started by LCD over in the WOS Phorums about ways to improve emulators. The idea mentioned is kinda like a built-in BASIC compiler (remember all the ones from "the good ole days"?). Well, being an assembler-man myself, I'm not really bothered about this, but I can see a few other features cropping up later in the thread. Could be one for all you emu-devs to watch.
Mind you, perhaps this could be just the chance to create a BASIC-compiler that actually handles floating point?!

 | E-Zine news from POS |
|
| |
The guys over at POS earlier today that a new e-Zine, Scream #1 will be released sometime this month. The zine, by Scream Crew\Constellation, currently has no English version, natch. So, if there's anyone out there willing to lend a hand with some translation, fire off an email to the main editor, Kristoph\POS.

 | ASC-II section added to POS |
|
| |
I think that headline says it all, really. Saw Himik on #z80 Statistics earlier today, and he mentioned that he was putting up a section on the POS website covering the recent ASC-II demoparty. You can pop over there and grab some interviews from the party. I've already listened to one of them, and as I only understand English, it just sounds to me like a bunch of drunk people talking. Sweet. Perhaps it'll mean more to other readers.

 | MB02+ userlist |
|
| |
Okay, couple things in here concerning the sweeeeet MB02+ disk interface. First up, I received a note from Hood about 8BC, the Czech company who actually produce the interface.
Basically, if you go here you can find a list of all MB02+ users around the world. The page is written in Czech, but it's not difficult to get around. If you're not included in the list, then send off an email to lmn@8bc.com and get yourself added.
My Czech is a bit rusty (rather, it's non-existent), but I think to get to the list, you need to click on the "Spectristi" link. Could be wrong tho'. Go on and Czech it out. Heh.
While you're there, you can also grab a bunch of tools for your MB02+. Click on the "Downloads" link, oddly enough.

 | z80 Stealth v0.450 released |
|
| |
Yep-yep, another release of the fine emulator, z80Stealth, has been thrown out to the public. Before you go to download it, here's a list of the major changes:
- General Sound now plays!
- Scorpion ProfROM (128k, 256k, 512k) emulation.
- Debugger added. Nice addition, includes Disasm, Asm, Mem-map, ports, etc.
- Kempston Mouse emulation re-written.
- Added emulation of 512k, 1024k memory expansion for Scorpion, and 16k RAMDisk for Pentagon.
- Added a killswitch. Stops Windows interfering with your emulation.
- Buggy HDD emulation added via image-files.
- More video-mode stuff, including saving Gigascreen images, and a faster 320x200 mode.
- A few bufixes.
Phew. Quite a bit in there. Right, you can go download it now. Go on.

 | Blah2! |
|
| |
Hehe, second Blah! in a row. Well, why not...
- There's a new version of the CC1 rules released. The changes are only minor, but you can get them from Chaosite.
- Spotted a new Poll over on the Sprinter website. This one is asking which apps you use most. Could mean the development of new software for the kit.
- Something else I noticed (and received an email about, thanks demiurge ash), is that ZX-Chart have released a .TRD version of... well, ZX-Chart. Pop over there and grab it.
- Altered the POS-team button.
- Heaven Aeroplane has released a new version of the screen viewer, SpecView SE. This new download includes support .SCL files. Go grab v2.1.11 now.
- Not completed your work for the Nuotrauka competition yet? Fear not, the deadline for entries has been increased to the 1st of May.
- Decided to skip the information on the upcoming Millennium 1901 demoparty - I checked the archives, and I've already covered it. But I'll just remind you that the party is taking place on May 5th in Minsk, Belarus.

 | Quick posts roxx |
|
| |
Ah well, another short burst from my news cannon:
- Over on the AY-Emu homepage you can now grab a document about the differences between the AY and YM soundchips, if that's your kinda thing. There's also some sample source code, too.
- Spotted something new over at specchums.org -- Speccy-based logos for your Nokia phones. Only available in the UK unless you have a way to get them onto your phone yourself (as I have - thanks LaesQ). They're looking for more logos, so why not get designing.
- This weekend I'll do some proper "checking out" of the upcoming Millennium party. I've kinda missed this one a bit, mainly due to not seeing much in English about it, and being slightly "relaxed" in the translation department recently.
- Sorry to whoever posted this info on CSS, but I lost the original post where this link was mentioned. It's a disc interface diagram that was suggested for someone wanted to add a drive to his +2A. Worth a check?
Poop.

 | Turtles Dreams v1.2 |
|
| |
Just got this email from ra_id\MAYhEM about the newest release of the Turtles Dreams party-list. In case you've missed it, it's a compiled list of all party releases since, ehm, Demobit'95, I think is the earliest. Worth checking out so that you can prove to yourself you have all party releases. All we really need now is a complete list of every Speccy demo produced. Not an easy task.

 | Zeroteam and HighTech |
|
| |
Interesting little article posted up on the ZeroTeam website. It's all about dance music on the Speccy. Written by Mike, it's worth a quick check.
As an aside, I was reminded via the ZT site of HighTech. Checked it out, and it all seems to be pretty much about IRC. Any clues on what's on here? I'd be interested to find out, as the project seemed like a nice idea.

 | CC1 Rules updated |
|
| |
Yeah, spotted an update over at Chaosite about the upcoming CC1 party. Pop over there now and you can download a new set of rules. I've just grabbed the English version, and using my fantastic file-comparison tool, here's the changes that count:
- Save 1/4 of the entry fee. Yeah, it's now down to $3.
- Detailed compo hardware for normal and "old-school" works.
- Much more information on the compos running, which I'll leave you to read through (fairly standard stuff).
- Some "possible" compos are : ASCII/ANSI; 256b and 512b intro; 1 week themed intro. This last one sounds interesting, where your intro must follow a theme to be announced one week before the party.
- Cyber International and METEC Ltd have suspiciously been dropped from the sponsors list.
- Ehm, I think that's all.

 | Sinclair T-Shirt |
|
| |
"Mad Props" to Russ who posted this link on CSS today. Okay, not demo's, but this is one for the retro-fans, and if you ain't a retro-fan you probably shouldn't be here.
Scroll down the page past the tigers, pausing at the "Bikini Love" shirt, and you'll eventually find a T-Shirt with a ickle Speccy on it. Sweet.
Now all I need is for someone to start re-producing the "Your Sinclair - it's Crap" T-Shirts. Perhaps a quick email to Future Publishing could secure permission? It worked for me when I decided to scan in every page of the "YS Tipshop Tiptionary" a few years ago (another project that I failed to complete). Hmm.

 | Text-mode TV |
|
| |
Just spotted this post from Surv!v0r over at POS:
"
Yesterday our TVS broadcasting company shown a 2 minutes videoreport from the ASCII demoparty.... Hm, I think they could do it better. :(
" So let me get this right... your demoparty is shown on TV and it's a bad thing that it's only 2 minutes? Heh, here in the UK, I don't think people give a shit about stuff like the demoscene. TV programs about computers are either too dull (Open University), or full of crazy women talking about consoles (Bits -- tho', there are a couple honey's on that program, so it's not all bad).
Aah well, there's no pleasing some people.

 | PHONE-omenal |
|
| |
Hehe. I like that. I at least make myself laugh sometimes.
Got word from UnBEL!EVER that there's a new addition to be made to the list of "parameters" in his Phonomania file. Yep, it's the one you all thought was missing, "speaking language". Simple to fill in, and I'll alter the download for you.
For most people I guess you'd put in "Polish, Some English", and so on. For me... "English, West Country, Farting". You get the idea. Grab the altered file here.
Sorry to anyone speaking Russian out there, but I haven't altered the Russian-language version of the file. Well, I couldn't, could I? ;]

 | ASCII'01 results |
|
| |
Oops. I'm sure I mentioned this somewhere before, but in a haze of alcohol, I completely forgot it was happening! Aah well, to make up for it, Surv!v0r has sent some files, and there's also some results. First up:
copy music compo
1 - Zemfira/Iskala - Eastman^X-Team
2 - Ruki-3 - VAD^ULG
3 - The Tale - Ded Smirnoff^PoS
nocopy music compo
1 - Valley - VAD^ULG
2 - Paradoxal - Dr.'S'^CIC
3 - Illusion - Monohrom^TRG
graphix compo
1 - Lady - Alex^X-Team
2 - Dinoz - Psychotron
3 - Fuck Man - Slider
demo compo
1 - Quarantine - Jumble
2 - Fucking Life - Brutal Creators
3 - Mad Pixels - Power of Sound
Of coz, as per usual, only the top-3 are here. There also seems to be some "confusion" over the results. Basically, the party and post-party results are different. The above cover the post-party (and hence more accurate) results.
Now, you can also download the releases from the party in two handy pocket-sized TR-DOS images. Get those emulators ready (unless you have a TR-DOS system) ... here comes disk#1 and disk#2. I've not had a chance to check them all out yet, but according to people who don't have to work 24/7, there's some gooood shiiiit in there. Nice to see, methinks.

 | Be still, my beating scene |
|
| |
Ehm, yep. 'Tis a quiet day today. Typical that it's quiet on the one day I have a couple hours to write up some stuff on the page. Perhaps I'll use my time to finish off an article for the upcoming Subliminal Extacy. Yeah, today is the deadline for articles, so who knows, perhaps I can get my work in there. If you've not sent off your work, then do so now. As for other news, here's a couple things I've picked up from a brief browse:
- Happy Birthday to Himik over at POS. Today you can feel a little older.
- Tomorrow gets a HB for Random from Chaosite, too. Heh, we can all feel ancient together!
- DB/S4E has posted another ROM. This baby is the Tape Emulator for the D40, it seems.
- Ooh, another birthday? Looks that way, over at Scenergy, who've greeted Flying with a cake. The info on the page says it's "25-1". Hmm. That's either his age, a date (in which case it's late), or the betting odds.
- Couple links I grabbed from V-TRD, but I've not had time to check out: zx-news (another child of narod) and Freedom Association.
- Finally, baZe has announced on the X-board that he's leaving the scene. Hmm... I'm doubtful -- check out the date! If it is true, then it's sad to see you go. But hey, we can meet up at a party and share a beer or 10.
There. Done it.

 | Discussions... |
|
| |
There's a big discussion on the X-board right now about the state-of-the-scene. Again. This time it's getting a bit more personal, with Raww Arse and Hooy Program mentioned as contributors to a slack scene... by an anonymous poster.
I'm not going to pass comment on this, as I guess it's up to each individual what they think. My only annoyance is that the poster remained anonymous. Have some guts and courage if you're going to comment on the scene like that.
I think it's an interesting discussion, and well worth a read, and even a contribution. Could it spell the death-throws of the scene? Who knows. Check it out.

 | Talking Telephone Numbers |
|
| |
For those of you in the UK, that headline will bring back memories of a grey-haired Philip Schofield presenting a shit program where they pick a random telephone number, and you get the chance to win 50 quid.
But fear not, as it leads neatly up to a mail I had from Unbeliever. He sent me a file detailing a project titled phONOmania. The idea is to get a huge list of contact details together for the "living" scene. I mean, people who are active.
Apparently there are similar projects for other scenes already, so it could be a good idea. Download the information and see what you think.
My only concern with something like this is... do I want my phone number to be freely available? It actually gives me an idea. How about a huge scene-contacts database? The only way you can get access to the information is if you are in the database yourself. Just a thought.

 | Geek Heaven |
|
| |
Hey, I know there are some really techy people out there, so you may be interested on a new posting to Sergey's AY-Emu page. If you go there, you can now download the datasheets for AY-3-89xx family and the YM2149. These are the soundchips emulated by his app, and it's the AY chip that's in the Spectrum. But if you didn't know that, you really shouldn't even consider being here <g>.
Also posted is the data manual for the AY-family. I'm guessing it's these documents that were used as the basis for "so what does this chip do anyway?" during AYE development. Who knows, next there may even be source-code posted, allowing a possible port to *nix! C'mon Sergey, how about it?

 | ROMs at Speccy4Ever |
|
| |
In an effort to simply list what's been updated over at S4E, here's a list of what's updated over at S4E:
- 64K GrandRomMax, with QuickCommander 2.6 and TR-DOS 5.12F (I think).
- English versions of the above, courtesy of Mac Buster.
- A photo of QuickDOS for Opus Discovery.
- SoftCrack v9.2 and v9.4.
- Some Multiface ROMs and things. Perhaps.
I think that covers the ROMs. Sorry if I've missed anything/got anything wrong, but hey, I'm tired and confused.

 | Sintech revamped |
|
| |
Remember I keep going on about the MB02+ interface? A nice piece of kit. Well, I got a note from FBI over at Sintech, and there's been a massive overhaul of the page. It currently re-directs you to the Sintech Online-Shop. Yeah, you can now order your goods for the MSX, Amiga, Atari, C64, Amstrad, and of course the Spectrum, online. Nip over there now and have a snoop around. You never know, you could just find something to put on your wishlist.

 | F2e3SE results + F2e3SE2 doubts |
|
| |
I still look at F2e3SE and think "hey, I'm writing like a L337 HaX0R". But that's abbreviations for you.
Anyhoo, if you feel like taking any advice today, take mine and get your ass over to Demotopia, where Gasman has posted complete results for Forever, along with a host of downloads. I think the only one missing is 3SC's The Loop, which will be released in a couple weeks as a fixed version.
Also while we're on the subject, you may not have noticed the party report over on the mainpage. It's a write-up by Pol\Phantasy, and mainly covers his doubts about next years party. Worth a quick read, and perhaps even a response.
For myself, I think you know why I couldn't make it to the party. Massive workload. I found out that I couldn't go about 48 hours before we were due to leave the country. Sometimes I wish I was still a student. Ho-hum.

 | Getting away with it... |
|
| |
Yeah, it's another little Blah! section to get rid of some news from my list.
- Sergey Bulba has posted a new download over at his AY-Emu page. Nope, not a new version of this fantastic "toy", but v1.1 of some music written by him this last year.
- A quick note to say that more comments are being added to Gas13's gallery. Don't be shy, tell him what you think. I will when I get a chance to really do some surfing.
- TDM\K3L has taken the plunge and joined super-group Hooy Program. To quote an anonymous friend -- "it just keeps getting bigger!"
- Missed out on some shitty goings-on at #z80. Seems that some fool has banned Polish and Russian domains on the channel. What an A-hole!

 | WOS up |
|
| |
Heh. What's up, geddit? Aah well.
It's true tho', WOS is back up'n'running, and currently spending a couple days in catch-up mode. Kinda like me. Yeah, I got back from a heavy weekend in London, and it seems like half of the Scene have decided to post updates. So for tonight I'm just going to cover a couple of the sites that don't need too much translation (that's ones in almost English)... it can be a hassle. The rest will be done tomorrow, I hope.

Just a brief note to say that I'm away again this weekend. I'm going up to "the smoke" to visit my brother and celebrate turning the quarter century.
So, this page will be quiet for a couple days, but then that's nothing new.

 | Downloads a'plenty |
|
| |
Squeezing all the download information into a single post here.
Over at Realsoft, they've added a whole host of new files to grab. Laziness allows me to simply list them:
- Far Manager Plugins by HalfElf
- Test 4.30 by CompoWellcome
- RamDoctor 2.0 by CodeMonsters HG
- Screen Manager 2.4 by Hanzis Sergey
- Visual Decompressor 1.2 by Thimoty
- BMP 3-Color 1.0 by Brothers
- Alasm 4.41 Stall Edition
- Hrip 1.3 by Delirium Tremens
Aah, the joys of cut-n-paste.
Another couple downloads can be found over at the AY Emulator homepage. Here you can grab the latest alpha-2 release of Micro Speccy, the .AY-player. There's also the first new skin for AY-Emulator itself, created by Ironfist. Perhaps we should petition Deviant Art or one of the other skin-sites for an AY-Section!
Finally for now, I noticed that Peters, the creators of the SP2000-board have posted screenshots of the Flex Navigator file manager. Looks nice.

 | Get me a mop! |
|
| |
Last tonight, I award baZe and Factor6 a pair of high-quality rubber gloves, as they've come in to clean up a mess.
Regarding the confusion over the 2nd-place in the demo-compo of Forever, these two kind gents have offered up an explanation. Seems that the demo was made by Zilog, baZe/3SC, and Factor6/K3L.PHT. It was made simply as a joke for BlackeR (who you may have seen lurking around #z80).
Also, regarding "The Loop", the 3rd-place demo, the one at the party wasn't quite complete. Seems it was hacked, cracked, and screwed-about-with, all to make it run at the party. The full version will be available soon for download from baZe's webpage.

 | WOS Status update |
|
| |
Quick update on what's 'on' with WOS, the worlds favourite archive of Speccy goodies. The site will be down for a few more days, probably until the weekend, while Martijn gets his kit sorted out. It was a problem with a router, I think. Could be wrong.
So... perhaps I should consider setting up a mirror of the WOS-ftp here in the UK!? After all I have a server just sitting here, hosting very little right now. I could put it to good use. Any thoughts?
As an aside, I noticed that RA got a mention on Scenet -- thanks for the pimpage!

 | Even More Graphic! |
|
| |
Yep, some news on a couple of graphics programs.
First up, LCD has released his recently-announced follow-up to the popular Bmp2Scr v1.70. It's titled, rather cleverly, Bmp2Scr v1.71. Grab this one while it's hot. (thinks: could LCD have used this to get himself 2nd place in the graphics compo at Forever?).
Next up, you can grab a new version of BestView 2.10 over at DJH Downloads. There's also some info about 4 demos from Millenium 2e3SE -- I've seen only a little information about Mil', so I wonder if it's confusion with 4ever? Perhaps... I'll do some checking when I get a chance.
/me is sooo tired and lazy

 | Forever 2e3 SE results |
|
| |
Okay, here's what you've been waiting for -- the first results from the Forever 2e3 SE party. Speccy only, of coz. And note, there's no Intro compo. Makes a change... that's the category that's usually flooded!
demo compo
1 - Pondlife - Raww Arse
2 - HeartBeat - Blacker/Zilog
3 - The Loop - 3SC
4 - Total Hooy - Hooy Program
AY compo
1 - Cybernoid's Revenge - Gasman/RA
2 - In Old KSA Style - Ravager
3 - Cool - Yerzmyey
graphics compo
1 - Sadness - Krystoph
2 - Mark - LCD
3 - Who? - Gas13
Note that confusion in the number 2 slot of the demo compo. One result was from Gasman, the other from Scenergy. If anyone knows who did what, when, where, and why... let me know.
Official results? Perhaps. Tho' I find it a bit suspicous that it was Gasman who sent me the results, and he also won two competitions (he was the leading force behind Pondlife). But hey, the guy's a veritable genius, so who am I to argue <g> (besides, he won according to Scenergy, too).
Looking for the releases? Wanna check 'em out yourself? Then pop over to Demotopia - they should be there around the time you read this. If not, keep yourself content with the entry by Hooy Program.

 | Blah! |
|
| |
Okay, this work stuff is really creeping into my surfing time. It's getting serious. So for the next few days I'll be applying a much higher-grade news-filter. Basically, only the really important stuff will get through to full posts. And perhaps some stuff that I just think is interesting.
The rest of the news will be collected together and placed into a post like this:
- Remember I mentioned NuoTrauka a while back? Slight change of email address for entries into the compo: nuo@mailru.com.
- Spotted even more ROMs on S4E : This time we see the Timex FDD 3000, including 128-"square-ULA" and +3 versions.
- On the subject of things to use your bandwidth on, DJH has some more tools for download: ZX-Zip/Unzip for both PC and ZX, and HRip 1.03.
- Over on the Sprinter website, they've announced the SP2000-Light. It's the SP2000 board with no ISA slots, and less VRAM. Testing is still going on with the full-power board.
- POS made a mention of CSP 2001, a party to be held possibly in July. I'll skip the details until I know more, but keep an eye on POS for info.
- Raver\PhT sent out an email with a new votesheet for a 'zine being released at the Mekka Symposium party. Of course you won't be able to fill it all in, but remember to put RA as number one in all categories <g> (/me wonders if the results will ever appear -- like the Phat0 results).
Okay, so this is no different to any other time. But hey, this time I thought I'd give you a reason <g>
I've got a few other news-things to report, but they can wait a day-or-so.

As you can tell from the headline, there's a new version of the wonderful RealSpectrum out, bringing it up to version 0.80.22 (more commonly known as beta 10). Wanna know the details? Here's some hints:
- Scorpion ProfROM support added.
- Scorpion SMUC support added. This thing basically turns your Scorpion into an old PC. Neat.
- IDE Emulation added. Now you can grab the +3e ROMs and simply pretend.
- NetPlay : Nice new feature for playing multiplayer games over the 'net.
- D80/D40 and Opus Discovery emulation.
- RealDisk : Another new thing, this tool allows you to work with real disks and images, including TRD, D80, and MB-02.
- Emulation added for the Didaktik Kompakt.
- Remember the MF128? There's now emulation of an all-RAM version, the Softrack.
- Finally there's a speed-up mode, for getting past those loooong chunk-demos ;]
- Quicksave/Quickload, as featured in so many PC games these days. Now you can do it to a snapshot.
- Various fixes and changes to the Z80 core, AY-LPT, and so on.
My advice to you, Sir, is to download it this instant!

 | CC1 countdown |
|
| |
With Forever 2e3 SE just about to get underway, the Unofficial CC000 site brings news of a new site about the upcoming CC1 party. You can pop over there and read news, rules, and results (after the party, of course). That's assuming you read Russian, anyway.
Also I noticed that there's another CC000 gallery up there. Worth a look.

 | WOS Gone? |
|
| |
Nope, WOS isn't quite gone, but it's disappeared from your local nameserver, I'll wager. A quick check nslookup on void.jump.org reveals... nothing. Hope this is just a temporary snag in the service.

 | Apologies for Absence |
|
| |
Okay, now for some bad news. Well, bad news for some, perhaps good news for others. The stress and pressure of work has taken it's toll, to the point that I'm not able to make an appearance at this years Forever 2e3 SE party. Short notice I know, but despite my efforts, there's a big important deadline looming, and I'm needed at work to try and reach it.
I guess this is the price I pay for being so damned clever! Or something.
Anyway, Gasman will still be going, and hopefully so will Yerzmyey, so you'll have some Raww Arse's to play with. Hope the party goes well, and I'll be keeping an eye open for the results to post up here.

 | Notes... |
|
| |
Just a couple things I thought may be worth noting:
- Over on the Russian section of DJH Downloads you can find issue #13 of KrNews.
- POS have "taken a stand" and decided to remove the ZXBN banner from their site. True it was annoying when ZXBN went down not long ago, but it seems okay now. Aah well.
Righty... Done.

 | Scenergy have moved |
|
| |
Wasn't sure if that should read "have moved" or "has moved". Either way, it's true. If you want to get to Scenergy, you should be using a different URL. Hmm. I guess the DNS information needs to filter down, as scenergy.org still points to the old site on nm.ru.
Anyway, the new URL for the time-being is scenergy.natm.ru.
On the subject of Scenergy, I noticed a mention of turtlesdreams. Now, the translation of this is particularly bad (thanks Babelfish), but I think I can work out some details. It's described as a "Sequential project", and I think it's based on the work of sceners that has appeared in competitions. But I could be wrong. If anyone cares to "fill me in", then please do so.
Thanks also to the Synergystic guys for posting up these links to some Forever 2e3 SE stuff... here and here. Think some of that is C64 work, but I'm sure you can do some on-the-fly filtering.

 | Skinnable Chips |
|
| |
Hey-hey, a new version of Bulba's excellent AY Emulator has been released. This is the final v2.0, after a couple of betas, I recall. So if you've grabbed the beta versions you won't see a huge amount of difference on top, but I'm sure things have changed "under the bonnet".
Actually, that comment about things not changing on the face isn't quite correct, as you can also download a skin manager for. Yeah, the winamp of the AY-world. Looking forward to seeing a few new interfaces for this baby.
Finally, I wish to greet AY Emulator a happy birthday. The project has just become 2 years old. Nice.

 | Thin on top? |
|
| |
Updates, as you'll have noticed, are a bit thin on the ground at the moment. The reason? Well, I've got a lot of work on at... work. This wouldn't normally bother me, but there's a good chance it'll interfere with my plans for going to Forever 2e3 SE. So, I've been staying late, and even working weekends, trying to fix someone's code, in the hope that I'm granted the time off to travel to the party.
The way I see it, I'll only miss the party if things go "okay" with the project I'm working on. If it goes really well, I'll have it sorted by the middle of the week. If it goes really badly, me taking a few days off won't affect it. If we get "almost there", I'll likely have to stay and continue work on it.
The moral of this story? Either be your own boss, or spend your life as a student.

 | Graphic Sex and Violin's |
|
| |
Well, I don't know about the Sex or Violin's, but it's certainly Graphic, anyhoo. A new version of Specview SE was released, bringing it up to version 2.1.10r2. Hmm, trips neatly off the tongue. The main addition I can spot is support for exporting GIFs. Sweet.
On the subject of graphics, I saw an update over at LCD regarding the upcoming v1.71 of BMP2SCR. Some nice new shiny bits in here, including a new conversion mode, a faster viewer, and conversion of .AVI clips.

 | Sweet downloads at DJH |
|
| |
Finally for tonight, there are some new toys to grab from DJH Downloads. For a start, there are a bunch of plugins for my favourite file-manager, FAR. These allow you to work with TRDOS images, .SCL files, HRIP, ZXZIP, and others.
Next you can find v2.01 of Art Studio 128, a text conversion utility, and MagicEye. It says this converts a 2D image to 3D, so I'm guessing Stereograms, right?

 | DNS Troubles? |
|
| |
Okay, we're having a few DNS troubles on the raww.net server at the moment. It's basically a hit-and-miss affair on whether you can see the server or not. One of the DNS servers is working fine, the other is... well, we're looking into getting something sorted out.
The problems will basically mean that some people won't be able to view the Raww Arse Archive, or download demos from Demotopia. As I say, I'm looking into getting it fixed.

 | Sprinter Polls |
|
| |
Peters, the makers of the Sprinter, have put up a poll on their page, so they can find out more information about the people who're checking out their system. Five minutes to kill? Got take part.

 | More Hardware Info |
|
| |
Ever been over to WOS sub-section, the Spectrum Hardware Index? No? It's a good site. Lists a huge amount of hardware for our dear machines. And the tally was upped the other day to 474, when Compusound provided a information on some of their devices.
Another neat thing to note is the addition of the Hardware Index to the Sinclair Infoseek engine. You can now go and search for that dust-covered piece of hardware on the web.

 | Buttons? Am I in a panto? |
|
| |
Very quick post at... ooh, @999 by my systray. Think I may have to change that, as it's simply 11pm by my watch. Anyway, I have some news to cover, but I've had a long day again, so I'm just gonna point you to the buttons over on your left for the time being. /me finally got his finger out of his arse.
I've simply gone through my inbox and rooted out the buttons that I've been sent, so I may have missed a couple. If so, send 'em my way and I'll add the buggers.
One button to note is a new raww.org button kindly donated by DB/S4E. Thanks bloke. Much appreciated.

 | Official SE3 release-date announced |
|
| |
Okay, got some notification from LaesQ that the release date of SE3 has been announced. We get a lot of people asking "When's it out?", and we can now say that it'll be up for download on April 18th. Or perhaps a day later, depending on if we're busy or not <g>.
So, keep your browsers pointed to papaya.raww.net to catch it.

 | Demiurge Ash's site updated |
|
| |
Running out of headline ideas today. Should have put all this in a single post ;]
Anyway, some updates over on the site of Demiurge Ash. You can find a couple new true-colour pictures released at MRS'2001, and also a new section about his released Speccy software.

 | Sprinter Updates |
|
| |
Noticed a couple changes over at the Sprinter homepage. Not much, just a couple slight alterations to the FAQ, and some clarification of which-Sprinter-is-which. I also noticed some Sprinter-related material over on LCD's homepage (the home of BMP2SCR).
