iconROM Clarification
Audience Participation time. Got a mail from MacBuster about the recent update on S4E. I was informed that the the Real Commander ROM was for use with the Betadisk interface v5.03+. Seems that I was somewhat misled:
" The interface we're all using here called "Beta 128". "Beta" is different disk interface, which is incompatible to "Beta 128" at hardware level! "Beta" uses TRDOS v3.xx and "Beta Plus" uses TRDOS v4.xx, when "Beta 128" uses TRDOS v5.xx (starting from 5.01, not from 5.03). Start any emulator, enter into "TRDOS" option of main menu and you'll see "BETA 128" in the central part of the screen there. The old "Beta" interface can not be used with 128k models. "
So there ya go. Just a clarification of some details, really. Personally, I'm sticking with my MB02... I know where I am with that little beauty.
Just to confirm... I only make mistakes on this page to prove that people actually read it <g>.

iconWebsite news
Well, as some of you will know I've been re-coding raww.org for a little while. You won't be able to see any major changes, as most of the work is back-end stuff, all designed to make my life easier. Besides, I kinda like the design at the moment. I won't be posting the new version yet, although I may implement a couple alterations to the current version which really should have been done long ago.
When the site is finally sorted, you should all have a much more pleasurable surfing experience, as I have a number of new features planned. But details of those can wait for a while, I think <g>.

On another web-site note, I see that Scenergy are in a competition of sorts. I can't get a decent translation right now (translate.ru is up-n-down a bit), but if you think that the brainchild of Arty and Flying is a top-notch site, then go cast your vote for them. I think I have, although for all I know I just ordered a pizza!!!

iconFinal Shoque in English
Well, happily Gasman has saved me the hassle of putting up the screen$ for Final Shoque (as I knew he would). You can pop over to Demotopia now and get the shots (almost mistyped that), and even view them online. You can also get the votesheet in English (something missing from the Scenergy collection), and... well, I think that's about it. Nice work Mr.G.
 [icabod] - 30/11/2000 @955

iconReal Commander at S4E
Got a note from DB/S4E over at... uhm... S4E. Seems he's added a new ROM to his site, Real Commander 1.96. It's designed for use on Pentagon's and other clones with the Betadisk interface (v5.03 and up). The bad news is that the file manager is in Cirrilic. Well, you can't have it great all the time.
 [icabod] - 30/11/2000 @950

iconDJH English Downloads
You see a link over there in the right column to DJH Downloads? Well I got a mail today from DJ Hooligan, informing me that there's now an English version of his site. If you've not visited before, now's the time. It's full of downloads (oddly) for demos, games, 'zines, system files...
You can get to it at http://zxeng.chat.ru/.
 [icabod] - 30/11/2000 @950

iconFinal Shoque voting deadline
The deadline for voting for the entries into Final Shoque has been announced as December 26th. Well, that'll give you all something to do during the couple days off you may get from work.
The votes will be for the Visualize section of the competition, and until I get a chance to post a converted version of the entries, you can download them over at Scenergy. As I understand it, the Technics competition will be judged by a crack team of, uhm... scene-type people. Hey, I'm tired, okay!?
 [icabod] - 29/11/2000 @030

iconBlah!
Yep, a short Scenergy Blah! to get rid of some little bits of news:
  • There's a new article on the site, written by Prog Master/SMCG. Sounds interesting... it's "About destiny of the Scene".
  • Power Of Sound are about to release Pusher version 6.03a. It'll be published in #11 of IzhNews.
  • More photos from CC000, this time courtesy of Xepypr/Galaxy Group. You can check the photos out here
  • There's been a "lost" adventure game from 1998 posted on the site, too. Go grab it, if that's your thing... but it's prolly in Russian, tho'.
No less important than any other news, but neatly slotted into place, I think.
 [icabod] - 29/11/2000 @020

iconWOS Moving
You read it right, it seems that WOS is having a server-shift tomorrow, Thursday 30th November. This means that the site will be down for about 24 hours, while it's moved to "a new (and faster) location". The URL to get to the site will remain the same, tho' I guess there may be some delay with cached DNS entries, so you may not see updates for a couple days. But I could be wrong.

iconScene Interview on excessteam.org
Yes, I've already used that headline, but now the file is available. That's right, you can now go grab the shiny, 4.8Mb MP3 of the interview taken at CC000 over on excessteam.org. For those people not able to read Russian (that's me included), I'll save you the hassle of working out where you need to click... no, I'm not linking directly to the file (that's frowned upon, you know). Instead, follow this step-by-step guide:
  • go to excessteam.org
  • click the button that _isn't_ English (the English site isn't up yet)
  • in the menu, click the 6th button from the top, or the 4th from the bottom (you decide)
  • click the button next to "cc000_interview.mp3"
As easy as 1, 2, 3, ... uhm... 4.
 [icabod] - 28/11/2000 @895

iconSinclair Hotline updated (soon)
As I mentioned in a past article, Sinclair Hotline will soon be adding an English translation of it's pages. But until then, thanks go out to Richard Tarjan for pointing me towards this pre-release of part of the page. There's loads of information on there, covering clones, sound-chips, and even... the MB02! Hoorah! Another site that's worth staying online for.
 [icabod] - 27/11/2000 @935

iconHappy Birthday WOS
Yeah, you read it right. Today is the 5th anniversary World Of Spectrum. If you've not checked out this site, it's a fantastically huuuuge archive of Spectrum material. Well worth a visit.
Happy Birthday WOS!
 [icabod] - 27/11/2000 @920

iconScene Interview on excessteam.org
Just been hanging around on #z80, and Lasoft of Excess Team has announced that tomorrow they'll be posting an interview on their site. It'll be posted in good-ole MP3-format, and contains 21 minutes of chatter with "proxium, fatality, drink copper feet, james, random and more."
Of coz, the chances of the whole interview being in English are smaller than that (points to something very small indeed), but hey, I've been told there's some English in there, and MP3's are a good way to fill up your hard-drive. And who knows, spend enough time listening to it, and we could learn another language. Here's hoping for a transcript (in English) soon after the release.
 [icabod] - 26/11/2000 @975

iconDemotopia update
Gasman has also delved into his enormous sack, and after much rummaging has produced another 8 demos to add to the collection over at Demotopia. The updates are:
  • Complications Remix / BK Soft
  • Cooking / BK Soft
  • Hudebni Demo / S-Tron
  • Kaz 4 / Kaz
  • Mitchell 21 / Laser Software
  • SKR 1 / SKR Team
  • SKR 2 / SKR team
  • Toccata / BK Soft
There doesn't seem to be anything amazingly new in there, but worth the download for completeness' sake.
 [icabod] - 26/11/2000 @870

iconCC000 prizes
Seems that some prizes have been pulled from Random/CC's "bucket-o-stuff", and are waiting to be distributed amongst the worthy. Think that's you? Well if you came 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in any competition at CC000, then it most certainly is. Fire off a mail to Random/CC now, and claim your reward.
 [icabod] - 26/11/2000 @870

iconBlah!
Yeah, another Blah! to remove some of the crap from my "whassup" list.
  • Power Of Sound have a new website, this one looking rather crisp and clean, design-wise. You should check out the downloads section, there's millions of things to grab.
  • Gas13, the graphical version of the Messiah, surely, has had an update to his site. But... I can't tell what! I really should pay more attention. I've added the gallery to my WSW-list.
  • Logic/Triumph has been busy over at Scenergy, having started work on the conversion of articles into English. You can now read UnBEL!EVER^x7m's review of Deja Vu #0A.
Hmm. Another little blast from the news cannon complete. Now...
 [icabod] - 26/11/2000 @865

iconPlay 48k Games online
So, it's got so bad that I'm reporting on games new. Tsk.
But it's good news anyway. WOS has added the ability to play 48k games online, using JX-Speccy, a Java 48k Spectrum emulator. I don't think there's any demos available to watch, but can you imagine a demo in a Java emulator, running inside Netscape or IE? Haha!
Still, you should go check it out. Click here to search for your favourite game, and click here to play mine.
 [icabod] - 23/11/2000 @960

iconACL namechange
Well, Ascendancy Creative Labs haven't had a namechange, but the majority of the members of the group have. I guess it's one of those "bonding" things that people do after vast quantities of alcohol. Still, the new line-up (or rather the changes) are:
  • Breeze - ex-Minisoft.
  • Blaze - ex-Dr. Grifus.
  • CryoGENiX - ex-Sir Denis.
  • AlPSU Nevsky - ex-Alex Psych.
  • Z0RG - ex-Laser Genius.
  • SERG'ant - ex-DJ.SERG.
Tnx to Scenergy for that news-thing.
There. Now, I must go and play with my new toy. DVD's roxx (ahem).
 [icabod] - 21/11/2000 @920

iconProject Chart
Hmm. Rather cryptic (to me at least) post over on Scenergy from Hauzer. Obviously a site is being worked on, and questionnaires are being collected, but... other than that, there ain't much to note. There's no URL for a start, of where to get the template for the questionnaire. C'mon people, give us more info!
[icabod accepts that he may just be missing the point]
 [icabod] - 21/11/2000 @915

iconScenergy in English
Scenergy now have a new "English" editor, in the shape of Logic/Triumph. This is surely a welcome happening for us non-Russian-reading folk.
His first task has, it seems, been to translate all the past news into English, resulting in a sizeable amount of text for us all to get through. So, wishes of Good Luck with the new position fly out to Logic.
Hehe. They musta read my bitching about bad translation engines.
Scenergy also has a new discussion board open for use. Go to it.
 [icabod] - 20/11/2000 @025

iconBlah!
Well, I have to be quick with this update, as my machine is going A-over-T right now. Connection keeps dropping, but in a rather crazy style. You know, error boxes, crashing apps, and eventually total system failure. All because of some rogue file, I guess. In fact, it's prolly a result of installing Direct-X 8. Ho-hum. On with the show, before my PeeCee dies again.
  • Mike of ZeroTeam made an update to the site, with information on their recent escapades (specifically to Forever 2e3 and ZX-Party 2000).
  • To cut-n-paste is surely divine, so I'll let WOS do the talking... "Leszek Chmielewski updated his utility BMP2SCR to v1.61." Couldn't have said it better myself.
  • Saw a message posted on X-Agon's board from the author of XZX, a *nix-based emulator. If you have any techinfo on the Didaktik-M, please send it on to him at this address.
  • Seems the deadline is up for entries to Final Shoque. There's something in the region of 30 entries, and I'll keep you up-to-date with the results as-and-when.
  • Got a mail from Namco about his upcoming new ROM I mentioned a few days back. It'll be released later this week, after a couple little bugs have been fixed.
  • Thanks to me (for spotting it on the site) and DB (for giving me more info) for this: Speccy4Ever has been updated with a new ROM, the 16K MR GLUK RESET SERVICE 5.3 128K (Edit) (I kid you not). To use it you'll need to TRDOS 5.12fm ROM, also available from s4e. As for the helpfile on the site... it's worth it just for the Beatles lyrics towards the end <g>.
There. Now, where's that Linux installation CD???
 [icabod] - 20/11/2000 @010

iconY2K Demolist
Seems that Raid from Mayhem distro-site has been busy, too. A list of all releases from 2000 has been compiled, and can be read over at Scenergy. It includes demos, intros, music, and graphics. Also there, you can find a couple new articles by Surv!v0r about the end of LFG and about... uhm... well, making a guess from the bad translation engine, I reckon it's about the relevance of the Speccy at this moment in time, and in the future. But I could be wrong.
 [icabod] - 19/11/2000 @700

iconTracker Music Archive updated
Sergey Bulba really has been busy. Mere nanoseconds after the release of the latest beta of his AY Emulator, he's decided to update his archive of Tracker Music (which can all be played with the emulator). This release of v2.1 of the archive brings with it around 300 more tunes. I've queued it for download, and I suggest you do the same if you want to appreciate quality AY music.
Also released on the same site is a new archive of tracks written by Sergey using ProTracker 3.4. Well, it's worth a listen.
 [icabod] - 16/11/2000 @870

iconNaked MB02
I bet you all went-a-quiver when you saw the word Naked in the headline. But alas, it's not Anna Kournikova starkers (tho' if you ask nicely...). It is in fact some pics of dismembered MB02. I'm sure this'll interest a whole bunch of you techie-types, and a few of us software people, too no doubt. You can find the pics posted on Raww Arse Archive, by the lovely LaesQ.
Now, about those Kournikova pics...
 [icabod] - 15/11/2000 @015

iconNew ROM
Raww Arse member, Namco has been working his fingers to the bone to bring you a new ROM for use in 128k and +2 machines. Okay, so there are a ton of these out already, but as Namco puts it: "most are 48K only and most won't work with ROM0 of a 128K Speccy". So there. Here's a quick list of some of the changes in this new ROM-set:
  • 16-bit POKE added.
  • Ability to DRAW, PLOT, CIRCLE outside of screen. Has to be enabled with some hacking.
  • FREE command added to show free memory for BASIC programs.
  • Fixed some shonky FP code.
  • SAVE and LOAD routines tweaked (old tapes still work, tho').
  • Added READER command for simple tape-header reading (replaces LPRINT).
  • Numerous other bugfixes from the original ROM
Well, there should be some things in there that'll please you. Or not.
So, where's the download??? Well, for the minute I'm not putting it up. I want to check a few details first. I'll let you know when it's all fully available to the public. Until then, be patient, eh!?
 [icabod] - 15/11/2000 @910

iconEl Mundo Del Spectrum
Found this link sitting in my inbox this evening: El Mundo Del Spectrum. It's a Spanish page, tho' it appears to be hosted in Germany. Go figure.
Amongst things such as music, news, various downloads, you can find on the main page a vote-form, allowing you to nominate your favourite emulator. But, there's no sign of my fave, RealSpectrum, natch! Well, best go put in a vote for "other", then.
 [icabod] - 15/11/2000 @895

iconBorn Dead articles
Scenergy reports that unused articles intended to be in Born Dead are now to be used in the 'zine Adventurer instead. The articles will appear in #12.
Also over there is a post with some news on the status of 4D demogroup. I'll not report on the post here, apart from to say that there's a photo of a very phallus-like object (albeit a mutated one). I found it amusing, but then I'm childish.
 [icabod] - 15/11/2000 @890

iconWOS Archive Update
Finally, after what seems like decades of waiting, there's been an update over on WOS. Yeah, the archive has been shuffled. This new update features over 600 new items moved into the main archive, but... where's the demos??? Well, maybe we'll see them in the next update, as there's still about 7 months-worth of files in the incoming directory.
 [icabod] - 14/11/2000 @997

iconLFG Ceased
Read over on Scenergy that Light Future Group have disbanded. To quote from the post: "Everyone who had any ratio to this label, can count themselves free."
This happened on November 5th, and so far it's kinda unsure as to the (light?) future of the members. From what I can make out, the Insanity 'zine will go on an issue in some form or another. But I could be wrong. Damned translation engine.
If you want to check the LFG site, you can pop over to www.tmr.narod.ru
 [icabod] - 14/11/2000 @995

iconRemoving the Backlog
Blah's are good. So here's another:
  • There's been a small update over on the SEMulator site. Not a new release, but a status update. The GFX routine has been speeded up, and various new features added.
  • Burial Graphics Editor has had a real update, bringing the version number to a lovely v2.40. You can download this new version over at Scenergy.
  • Also in the downloads section there is another GFX editor, this time from Prog Master/SMCG. The translation from Russian failed me this time, resulting in "possibility to draw ???????". I've queued it up.
  • Prog Master also uploaded a his new newspaper, Du Hast. Go check it out (again over at Scenergy).
  • More mags are there too, in the form of RIP. I'll leave you to work out the details, hehe. And also there's a new issue of Deja Vu from BDA
  • After my note that the new version of AY Emulator was released, there's a new beta out. v2.0b2 looks like it fixes mainly the problem I mentioned with the new interface. There's also been some layout changes.
  • There's another photoreport out for CC000, this one from Virtual Brothers. It's in Russian (shock!!!), but the rest of us can at least look at some new pics from the party.
  • I've started monitoring the Spectrum section of Scenet, a "global demoscene" page, written in (hurrah!!!) English. I've added a link, and when I can get my arse in gear, I'll sort out a button for that and other sites.
  • Another thing I found on Scenergy was mention of a new 'zine published by Perspective group. The first issue is dedicated to the humble Spectrum. And UnBEL!EVER^x7m has kindly reviewed it. Nice.
That's a sizeable chunk gone. Much of this news was grabbed from Scenergy.
 [icabod] - 14/11/2000 @990

iconTired
Okay, you'll have noticed that throughout today's update there's been no mention of Scenergy. The site isn't down. There's been no falling out. Everything's as it should be. But...
Scenergy has a huge number of posts there, and I need to recover from my holiday. So, I'm gonna end tonight, and go through the rest of the news I have tomorrow night. I think that's sensible. But for now, I'll sleep.
 [icabod] - 13/11/2000 @955

iconAY Emulator beta release
Sergey Bulba has released a new beta of his superb AY Emulator. New in this release are track titles shown for .ASC and .STP files, support for EPSG files, hot-keys, and some new player frequency stuff. Also added is a new interface. But, while it looks very nice, it sadly breaks the ability to associate AY files with the emulator. I'm sure it's a simple fix, and this is only a beta. Worth grabbing all the same.
 [icabod] - 13/11/2000 @945

iconIs it becoz I is back?
Well, I am back, in a much whiter form than you'd expect after a week sunning it in the Canary Islands. But what can you expect from spending half the time drinking, and the other half recovering!?!? Obviously there's been a whole heap o' news during the past week. In fact, due to working on "another project" before I left, there's been a whole heap o' news since the beginning of November that I've yet to report on. So, to whittle down the list, here's some doobries for ya, in no particular order:
  • Chaosite has had a bit of a re-design, but only a slight alteration to the front-page. Still seems quiet as a fart in a vacuum.
  • Pop over to Gas13, the site of, ehm... Gas13. Here you can find his entry into the Final Shoque competition. Check it out, it's rather good.
  • Spotted on WOS that a new version of BMP2SCR has been released, bringing it up to a nice round... v1.60. I've added the program to my download queue, so I'm not sure as yet what the changes are.
  • Raver has been delaying the release of the Phat0 results even more, and now the blame has fallen to Relict. Hehe. Very sloped shoulders <g>
  • Sinclair Hotline will soon be updated with a new English version. This site has a wealth of information on it, so I'm sure looking forward to checking it when I can actually read it!!! For now, tho', you can read some of the English translation over on X-Agon's board.
  • LaesQ has announced over on RAA that the 'zine Subliminal Extacy has been put on hold. Basically this is due to people not contributing articles. Ahem. So go forth and write creative texts, or the mag may never see the light of day. Definately a bad thing.
  • A note from Savatage informed me of a redesign and slight URL-change of his site, ZXS GFX. This site is an archive of Spectrum GFX from the various demoparty's that have been held. Nice design, too.
  • Remember a while back I mentioned a place you could get information on the Sprinter? Well muchos gracias to DB for pointing me to this English translation of the FAQ. It's held on the main Peters webpage.
  • ZXBN now has a message-forum. The only messages there right now are in Russian (unless my eyesight is going), but it should be worth checking out.
  • Had a couple URL additions too. First up is demogroup ESA, where you can find a history of the group, plus the obligatory downloads of all their productions. And also I've added Namco's page to the demoscene people-list. Okay, I know it's not entirely Spectrum related, but it is Namco, so I'll slot it in.
Well, that's a fair amount out of the way. Onto the next bits.
 [icabod] - 13/11/2000 @875

iconHolidays
Well, as you'll have noticed, everything's been a bit quiet of late. Well, that's not entirely true, but I've been kinda busy, so there tends to be gaps between posts of a few days. And now it's about to get a little worse.
I'm off on holiday for a week. I'll be consuming vast amounts of beer, and will be outta reach of any computers for the whole time. But you can look on this as a good thing, as when I get back I'll have a heap o'news to write about (loads is going to happen during the week, I'm sure... I've already got a couple things ready to report on, but I have to get some sleeeeeep).
Anyway, while I'm away I recommend checking into these sites:
  • RAA : I have it on good authority that there'll be some important news posted here while I'm gone, so keep an eye on this one.
  • Demotopia : Your source for demos. Go make use of your bandwidth, and download!!!
  • Chaosite : Seems to be rather quiet for now, but this site can surprise with some scoops.
  • Scenergy : a rival? or a companion? Either way, this is a top news site, albeit mainly in Russian.
  • X-Agon's page : Home of "The Board".
Of course, look down the list on the right and you'll find a load of other places for news. But the ones above are the juiciest, eh?!?
Have a good week. Back soon.
 [icabod] - 04/11/2000 @055

iconACL new site
Had a note from Minisoft (of ZXBN-fame), mentioning that links to the website for Ascendancy Creative Labs should be updated to a new URL. Two addresses were given, http://www.acl-hq.org and http://acl.narod.ru. Currently, only the "backup" address works for me, although a quick peek at whois shows that acl-hq.org has indeed been registered. Well, you know this new-fangled internet technology. It'll take a little while to filter through. For now, I'll put up both ACL addresses in the links.
 [icabod] - 31/10/2000 @935

iconUnofficial CC000
GAH! Just after I upload the page, I remember that I have this link in my mail... http://ok.novgorod.net/cc000. It's an unofficial page for demoparty CC000. It's all in Russian (of coz), but it's a good place to gather together all info about the party. Go visit.
 [icabod] - 30/10/2000 @905

iconZX Party 2000 Photos
Finally for today, some demo news (hoorah!!!). Someone has finally followed my lead and posted a selection of photos taken at ZX-Party 2000. And that someone happens to be TDM of K3L. The photos can be found here. Just click on the "Snapshot" button to see the list.
You'll be pleased to know that I only appear in a couple of the photos -- you can easily find them because there's a certain air of beauty about them <g>
Thanks also to Baze for the info.
 [icabod] - 30/10/2000 @890

iconSpectrum Console
It's useful having the occasional geek for a friend, especially when they remember you're into retro stuff. So mad props to Zaghurim (a Quaker), for pointing out this little bundle of joy over on The Register. The claim is that for about 10ukp you can grab yourself a mini-console which plays over 30 Spectrum games. It's called the MegaJoy 2000, although the link they have to a company selling it... well, it doesn't look like it's described, if you see what I mean. But hey, at 10 quid, you can't go far wrong.
 [icabod] - 30/10/2000 @885

iconFreeart
Got a link sent over to me pointing to Freeart. It's not demo-related, but it's worth a look simply for some new-retro. Ehm... I mean, these guys write software for z80-based systems. Games to be precise. And to be even more precise, for the Spectrum (and Gameboy Color). So, if that's you thing, then go check it out. The page is unfortunately screwed by some gashed links, but to fix it up, copy the link and flip the second \. You'll see what I mean.
 [icabod] - 30/10/2000 @875

iconFinal Shoque
Got a mail over the weekend from Triumph, organisers of the Final Shoque party that I mentioned a while back. I'm a bit tired after a hectic weekend, so I'll simply point you at the party information. Support this thing, ya hear!?!?
 [icabod] - 29/10/2000 @925

iconPapaya Labs
Over at Raww Arse Archive, LaesQ has posted an update. The details are vague for now, but it seems that during his visit to Portugal for the Papaya meeting, some discussion about new hardware occured. As I say, details are vague, but I'll try to get a scoop for you in the near future.
 [icabod] - 29/10/2000 @910

iconz80s Downloads
A couple days ago there were some more downloads added to the z80-Stealth page, basically in the form of a bunch of demos and demo-packs. A few demos including First Association and Agony (some nice old-skool work) were posted, but most interesting to me is the choice of demo-packs. You can go and grab a .TRD file (for Pentagons and emulators) of demos by E-Mage and Extacy-3. Yeah, go see the classic works from this ancestor of Raww Arse.

iconRealSpectrum beta8
As mentioned a few days ago, the new beta of RealSpectrum has been released, and this one's looking to be a corker. Here's a rundown of what's new:
  • Real Tape support. Yes, RS joins the ranks of emulators that let you pipe tapes through your soundcard.
  • Covox support has been added, along with Stereo Covox, Soundrive, and Music Machine. These should provide some very nice emulation of high-quality sampled sound.
  • At last you have the ability to create empty disk-images, a feature that has been sorely lacking until now.
  • Emulation has been added for the DISCiPLE, +D, +2A and +3 parallel port. Data sent through this port can be piped to either of your PeeCee's LPT ports, or pumped into a file.
  • It's now possible to use "alternative" ROMs for addon devices like the +D, Multiface, and TR-DOS.
  • Scorpion emulation has been improved, with more accurate multi-colour timings, amongst other things. Thanks go to DB for loaning his Scorpion to Ramsoft.
  • Disk support has been improved for using real disks.
  • Joystick emulation has been tweaked to allow cursor keys to be used for joystick input.
  • The ability to turn off AY emulation in 48k models of Spectrum has been added.
  • Snapshot handling has been improved, including the ability to read/write 256k .z80 files in Scorpion mode.
  • The obligatory bugfixes.
I don't know about you, but this release has me pushing the download up to the highest priority in GetRight. Now I'm just looking forward to the next beta release, supposedly with MB02 emulation. Sweeeeet!

iconDemotopia update
Gasman has proved he's not slacking (as if) by posting 6 more demos to his archive, Demotopia. Added in this update are 4 old demos by THD/Alex Boy, plus a demo which I guess is based on the music from Fantasy World Dizzy. It's called "Fantasy World Dizzy Music". Finally, a '00 (that's this year) demo named Curse by Dio-Gen. Go download them, and add them to your collection. Remember, on Demotopia, all demos are released as .TAP-files.

iconBlah!
First up for today are a couple small notes.
  • Looks like SpeccyAL really is no more, with the homepage just linking to the hosts mainpage. Incidentally, you may want to check it out, as it covers simply retro gaming platforms. Worth a look. It's called Vintage Gaming Network.
  • Another emulator, z80-Stealth, has switched servers, now being hosted by EmuUnlim. No changes to the emulator, but there's an added download section for demos, 'zines and things of that nature.
  • Over on Scenergy there was some news from "new group" Placebo. You can go there to download a vote-sheet for the 'zine Buzz. Go vote!
  • Also Scenergy report that the PeeCee and Amiga releases from CC000 are available. If that's what floats your boat, then click over to http://ok.novgorod.net/cc000 and grab them.
  • I've added another button, kindly sent by gfx-supremo, Gas13.
  • During an update a couple days ago, my machine crashed. I thought I'd recovered everything, but in the trauma of swearing profusely at Windows, I managed to forget to actually link to Savatage's graphics site. I've added the link into the Demoscene section on the right. Sorry for the screw-up.
  • I added another entry to the taglines at the top of the page. It's a Dune quote, you know. Reload a couple dozen times and you might even get to see it <g>.
That's that done.

iconBlah!

  • DB informed me of an update of his site Speccy4Ever. You surely know it from the huge collection of ROMs. The highlight of the update for me is the inclusion of the MB02 ROMs from RAA. Sweet.
  • Gas13 has had his site appear in a top100 list... and right near the top, too. Comes in at, uhm, number 3 I think of the Kuban Resources top100. Nice to see some appreciation for the digital Van Gogh.
  • Virtual TRD has had an update too, this time with downloads for a (mega)demo from Flash named Iris, a ZX-Filemanager (for .TRD, I guess), and a PeeCee-based .TRD-handler. I've tried the downloads, but GetRight thinks they don't exist. Let me know if you have better luck.
I'm tired now, so I'm off to bed. Well, I've been working since 6am this morning. It just can't be healthy!

iconEternity Industry == Placebo
Spotted a post on Scenergy from supposedly new group Placebo. The post starts with the news that Eternity Industry are leaving the scene. It doesn't say whether this is a direct result of winning at CC000 with Dogma. Or perhaps it's a result of the recent 3rd birthday of the group.
But fans of EI's work shouldn't worry too much, as they're not really leaving, it's just a name-change. Well, more than a name-change, they claim to have changed the "essence" of the group (but that could be bad translation again).
It's unclear which of the group will be the front-man in lipstick.

iconRAA == Papaya
Changes have occurred over on Raww Arse Archive. The site has been taken over by one of the Raww Arse sub-groups. Papaya is the new group and, copying the tradition of "old-skool" demo-coders, splits again into a hardware and software section.
Papaya Dezign is the software side, with the current team-list being LaesQ, Phoenix, and K-0s. The hardware side is Papaya Labs, and consists of basically the same team, minus K-0s.
Currently the Papaya section of RAA is under construction, but I've seen a pre-release of the page, and like the new RAA, the design is looking good. Keep an eye out for forthcoming projects and updates.

iconSpectrum Gallery
Was on #z80 earlier and Savatage pointed me to his new site dedicated to ZX Spectrum Graphics. Specifically, you can go there and download graphics from competitions. Nearly all images are there in easy-to-view .gif format, with only a couple competitions forming gaps in the collection. If you can help out with the requested pics, then contact Savatage... he'll be extremely grateful.

iconBorn Dead delayed
According to posts on Scenergy and Samara, the latest issue of Born Dead isn't the latest issue. Or rather, it's been delayed for a while. This shouldn't be a problem, but from those posts and others I've read, it seems more like Born Dead is no more. I don't know, maybe it's simply a bad translation.
Either way, Prog Master from Sinc Masters Creative Group (you may remember his entries into CC000), has released some work that was due to be included in BD#11. But due to the lack of a release of BD, you can download it over at Scenergy.

iconZXBN news
Just spotted this as I was about to upload. ZXBN now has a domain-name and a news service. Well, the news-service provides updates via email, and the domain is zxbn.org. I'll update links and things later. For now, I have to go eat!
